As Kaleesha walked her into the room Simon was in Anna recognised it as the room she had been when she had first woken up. SImon was sitting in a chair, his hands clutching his head in a stressful kind of way. He looked up as Anna cautiously closed the door."Ah, Anna."
Anna nodded and waved awkwardly. Silence."Uh, yes. I have the equipment you need to survive when we travel to the warehouse," he pointed to the room to the right of him."Right, thanks." Anna walked into the room and found a small black and dark green backpack on a mattress. Anna looked around saw Grace standing up, her body bent over the window sill. She was looking outside, her eyes fixed on something far away.
"Do you have ever worry what happened to our parents? I know it's only been a few days... but still." Just as suddenly as she'd said that, Grace let a single, silent tear run down her face. Anna could tell she was trying really hard not to cry."Pah! Your parents will be fine! So will mine, they're probably in a military recovery centre already." She wasn't sure if she sounded convincing or not, but she didn't need to worry about her parents. They were all the way over in Alaska anyway. Unless of course there had been Bloodlusted experimentation camps everywhere in the world."Think you should get changed," Grace said, her voice seeming warmer and happier.
"Yeah," Anna replied, striding over to the backpack that lay on the mattress. She went and got changed into the camo clothes in the still standing ensuite. After organising everything on her belt so that it was easy to rip out a weapon if she got into trouble, she walked out to find the dreary room she had just been in full of life."Hey Anna!" Sophie exclaimed as she saw her walk out."Mitchell managed to get the lights back on!" Mitchell walked up slowly and smiled awkwardly."Nice job!" "Thanks," he replied, sitting down on a chair.
Anna looked around, remembering that she had been in the Observatory Hotel once for a party. It was just like this. Except with music. And no Bloodlusted. Also no one had been wearing knives and pistols on their belts.
"I'm worried about my cat," Sophie mumbled suddenly."I'm worried why Simon had all of these weapons and stuff," Anna said back. She turned around as someone tapped her on the shoulder. It was Cara."He's an apocalyptic craze." Anna tilted her head in confusion. Cara sighed and explained again."He was worried about an invasion, so he bought all these weapons. For himself and any survivors he found." "How do you know all of this?" Mitchell asked, raising an eyebrow in suspicion. Cara glowered at him before saying:"I don't like him, he's just some old fuck that lived near my hotel room." The kids laughed as Cara said this."Riiiiight," Mitchell snickered. She rolled her eyes."Be off with you!" she growled, Anna walked away, still laughing a bit.
A sudden spike of fear struck her as she realised how loud she was being. She looked around in a panic, checking that all the windows and doors were closed. They were. Her brief panic subsided. Anna decided to walk up to the window and look outside. The Bloodlusted were gone, as though they ceased to exist, although a few were lying dead on the ground which gave a Anna a small reason to smile."I know right, very satisfying," Alex said from beside her. He had suddenly just appeared out of nowhere. Anna snorted and continued to look out the window. The way the streets were so empty and desolate frightened Anna a tiny bit."Why aren't the Bloodlusted outside?" "They don't like the night, it reminds them of the tests the scientists used to run on them." A small shiver ran down Anna's spine."What did they do?" Alex shook his head."Terrible things." "Yes but what did they do?"
"They locked them in dark rooms and chained them up, stick a needle into them to make them hallucinate. The scientists would control what they saw, and made them see someone precious to them dying. Being quartered in front of them. Hanged, stabbed... broken in front of them." Anna felt a big lump in her throat as Alex said this."What shit!" she snarled. He just nodded and left her side. Anna left the window as well to sit down on a chair underneath a lightbulb. The air was clod and crisp and the lightbulb provided little warmth against it, but it was nice anyway.
She sat there for awhile, thinking about what had happened the past few hours. She only broke away from her thoughts when she smelt the sweet aroma of food. It made her mouth water uncontrollably. After waiting a few minutes and resisting the urge to storm into the kitchen to yell at whoever was cooking to hurry up, dinner was served. It was just canned food heated up, but it was delicious none the less. Anna scooped it up with her hands, since they didn't have any cutlery. She finished up extremely quickly and looked around the room, Mitchell was poking his food dejectedly."You gonna eat that?" she asked. He silently slid the tin can lid (cause thats what they were eating on) over to Anna who quickly gobbled it up. Simon handed her a small cup of water."You can't have to much, we'll run out." "Yeah alright."
Anna slowly slurped up her water, feeling the cold liquid run down the back of her ash-strucken throat. She didn't dare ask for more. Anna sat down and laid her head lazily on the back of the chair. Sophie and Grace walked up to her and they talked about what had happened on the rooftop. When Anna tried to explain the exciting tingling she felt, Sophie just shrugged and said it was probably just a jolt of fear.
They talked more until Simon stood up on a table and announced:"We will be leaving in two days time," Anna could hear Alex muttering his arm will still hurt by then."... and we'll be travelling at night. Tomorrow your all going to get needles, your going to turn into nocturnal humans." "The fuck?" Mitchell asked."Needles? Nocturnal humans? How?" Simon looked begrudgingly at him before saying:"From the experimentation camp, obviously." Mitchell threw his hands up in the air in confusion."Fuck this, I'm going to bed." He left the room."You all better go to bed now," Cara put in, helping Aliza up. The kids followed her down the corridor and to the bedrooms.
"In here, girls," she signalled to Anna, Kaleesha, Grace and Sophie. They all walked in and Anna recognised it as the room she got changed in. Cara followed them in and laid down on the sofa with a light green blanket draped over her."You all sleep in the bed," she said, pointing over to the other side of the room. The bed sheets were a light green colour just like the blanket Cara was sleeping in. The bed was covered in a thin layer of ash and some corners of the bed were black and burnt, but the only part Anna was looking at was the comfortable middle part of it. She flung herself onto the bed and lay there."You guys better not snore!" Sophie exclaimed. The girls talked for a while in the dark before Cara told them to shut the fuck up and go to sleep. They all did except for Anna, who couldn't stop thinking about Kaitlyn. The night was always a time when bad feelings struck the hardest. Don't you realise how uncaring you were when she died? Anna let out a shuddering breath and let silent tears run down her face. She suddenly heard a rustle of sheets and then Sophie's arms wrapped comfortingly around her.
Anna let a small, surprised eep escape her mouth and felt her face start to grow hot. She took in another shuddering breath before burrowing deeper into Sophie's arms. She fell asleep.
