Charles was quiet. What could he say? He didn't want to scare his mate away. She trembled under his gaze, but not from fear. Her body knew it belonged to him. Her eyes glazed with confusion and sensuality. His mate wanted him and it made him smile internally. His wolf howled in excitement. Claim mate now! Please... she wants us.

Her odd arousal scared her. This man in front of her was hers. Hers? What was she thinking? The man had popped out of nowhere and her wolf protector was nowhere in sight. The man was perfect-looking to her in every way.

"Alice, that's the doggie. We know him. Hi doggie!" Amy's little hands waved back and forth. "That's our doggie!! Come here doggie." "Shhh.. Amy. Let me talk."

She looked at him and asked again. "Who are you?" He simply ignored her question and stepped forward. Once again, she stepped back. "Please talk."

Charles smiled softly and extended his hand. "My name is Charles. It looks like you could use some help." Alice blushed. Of course he'd want to help her. Their clothes were torn and she was pretty sure she had a cut on her face. She softly extended her hand and grasped his softy.

"My name is Alice. This little munchkin is Amy. We could use some help. Are we close to a town?" The man extended his hand again and simply stated, "Let me show you." Alice knew this was shady but she figured if he wanted to kill her and Amy, he would have attacked immediately. "Sure. Lead the way."

Charles revealed the softness of her hand. The other was holding a toddler to her hip as he led her away from the edge of the forest and deeper into it. She wouldn't need to leave the forest. He would take her to the pack village. She belonged there with him.

She liked the feeling of his calloused hand. He could take her anywhere. She felt warm with him around. The walk was quiet for quite awhile. It wasn't awkward. It was peaceful. Slowly she began to hear chatter and a car in the distance. "I'm guessing we're close. I was wondering if you could lead me to a police station. I need to report something very important."

Charles stiffened. He could tell that his mate had been in a scuffle but he hadn't realized the severity of it. "Ma'am, I'm the sheriff." Of course he was lying. He was more than that but he needed to know what to protect her from.

"Oh! That's perfect. Could we go somewhere comfy to talk. Amy is getting sleepy and probably hungry. Is there a nice coffee shop or something?"

"I know just the place," Charles replied. His house. Or rather, theirs now, he figured. He'd lead her to his home and open it for his family. He reinstated his grip and pulled her with him. He was a man on a mission.

"Would you prefer somewhere quiet, like my house? You don't need to worry about anything. My house is in the center of the town. You'll be perfectly safe and I have a guest room Amy can sleep in." He felt her hesitation but continued on, "I can cook up some dinner and we can go over your business."

"That sounds good to me." Charles smiled at Alice and she shyly looked away and to her sister. Amy was griping about wanting food and being tired so Charles turned and gestured his hands towards Amy.

"You look tired. Do you want me to hold her?" She sighed in relief.

"That sounds wonderful, actually. My arms are so sore."

Charles held Amy to his chest and quickened their pace. They passed the citizens quickly. Alice could see the slight head bow and a soft spoken word that she couldn't make out. This man was revered here. Finally, they came up to a large cabin with trees and wildflowers surrounding the area. The landscaping was beautiful for it being in the center of the town. But if she really thought about it, the town was more wild than modern. The cabin was simple in design but she could tell the wood was taken care of and was built with warmth and love. Someone cared about this home. Go figure. It was the man's home. He probably had a beautiful wife and kids. He opened the door with his left hand and invited her in. The interior of the house was rich in color and intricate. He walked towards the door and opened it quietly. Amy was passed out on his shoulders. Charles gently laid her down and covered her with a blanket.

"Let's talk."
