Cassius jumped out of her sleep. A long groan of pain echoed in the air. Cassius was alert. She crouched low on the tip of her toes as she surveyed her surroundings. She was surrounded by stone walls that had what looked to be dried blood stains in various areas. Cassius shuddered.
"If you're thinking about escaping, don't even bother."
Cassius' eyes flashed to a corner where a small girl sat. She wore brown rags for clothes and one of her arms hung from a chained cuff.
"They'd kill you before you even make it to the cell door. I've seen it."
Cassius frowned. She looked at her arm to see that they were free. Perhaps the grounders were testing her. Seeing if she would run so they can send a spear through her heart.
"So you guys do speak English," Cassius murmured without looking at the girl. "There goes the theory of your people being uncivilized savages."
The chained girl held an amused smile on her face. "Is that what the sky people think?"
Cassius scoffed. "Please inform your leader to give us a better name than sky people."
She turned her head to finally face the girl. "Well, your people sent a giant pointy stick through my friend and tried to kill me on my first day here. Whatever we did to piss you guys off, please only blame Clarke. I'm sure she's more than willing to take the blame."
The girl scooted as close as she could to Cassius. "Clarke. She's your leader?"
Cassius shrugged. She speaking too much, this she knew, but she didn't really consider them her people. Not that she did in the first place. She didn't really have much people that she cared for. Wells was dead. Her father was floating around in space and could possibly be dead by now. Murphy is God knows where. All she has left is Octavia and Bellamy, but she probably lost them too.
"Clarke is not my leader. Now that I think about it, she probably did have a rise to power with me gone. Those losers can follow her if they want."
The girl tilted her head in curiosity. "Surely you have someone you care about. Family, friends, a boyfriend perhaps?"
Cassius turned to the girl with a stoic expression. "They aren't here."
The girl was confused now. "Are they dead?"
Cassius shifted so that her feet lay in front of her.
"The majority of them. I have one friend, but you guys are probably torturing him or something."
"They are," the girl said nonchalantly.
Cassius eyed the girl warily. She was completely freaking out on the inside, but decided to stay cool and see exactly how things would play out. "What did you say my chances of getting out of here are?"
The girl smiled at her. "Absolutely zero."
Cassius sighed. "I suppose there's nothing I can do about that."
The girl got up in a crouch, as if she were suddenly riled up or about to scamper away.
"Most people would want to get back to their people. Are you not loyal to them?"
Cassius scoffed and let her head flop to the side.
"Tell you what. You give me a reason to be loyal to you, and I will."
"How loyal?" The girl inquired.
"For the people who have my loyalty, I would slay a million men and myself afterwards if given that order."
