Chapter 14

It seemed like within seconds of going onstage for I Want I was grabbing Niall’s tie and yanking him around to face me for the ending. He smirked at me, that always present playful glint twinkling in his blue eyes. Then the lights went out and Niall and I bolted off the stage.

He was my designated dressing assistant because Dani and the rest of the girls had come up with a little two minute jazz number to do while I got ready for my solo. I frankly didn’t even think about the fact that my boyfriend was seeing me in my underwear and my dance bra as I yanked off the pink sparkly dress and my tan tights. Niall tossed me my dance shorts and my royal blue sports bra before he took my hair out of the ponytail it was in and let it fall free around my shoulders.

I plopped down on the floor to yank on my pointe shoes while Nialler got his spare white button-up off the hanger. As soon as I had my shoes on, I jumped to my feet and let Niall help me into the shirt and tie it up at my ribcage. I rolled up and down on my toes to warm up my feet while Niall rolled the sleeves of the shirt up to my elbows. We finished getting me changed right as the girls finished their dancing.

“Breathe, Red. You got this.” My Irish boy kissed the top of my head and gave me his sweet smile before I ran back onto the stage and he ran off to get ready for their next song.

Niall’s P.O.V.

I looked away when Kora started to change, feeling slightly awkward about this situation. I didn’t really think about the fact that she would be completely changing when Danielle told me I should help Kor get ready for her solo. But now here I was, trying not to look as my girlfriend stripped down and threw on the clothes I handed her faster than what should have been humanly possible. All I can say is I’m glad Harry was nowhere around.

Once Red had on the dance shorts and sports bra she was going to wear, she flopped down and put on her ballet shoes while I took her wavy hair out of the high ponytail she had it in. It fell loose down her back and around her shoulders, hiding her shoulder blades that were now visible thanks to the diet her family had put her on. I hated how thin she had gotten. Sure, she had always been skinny, but it was different now. She used to be just incredibly toned and had a dancer’s body, but now…

I shook my head, forcing myself to pay attention as Kora jumped to her feet. I tied her shirt up at her ribs like Danielle had specified so that Kora’s stomach showed and rolled the sleeves up to her elbows while she bounced around on her shoes.

“Breathe, Red.” I told her, noticing her teeth digging into her lower lip. “You got this.” I kissed the top of her head and ruffled her hair (which always made her scrunch up her nose and shut her eyes) before running off to get myself dressed for the next song.

“I can’t believe I let you help Kora change,” Liam grumbled for about the fifth time as we headed back to the stage. “It’s just wrong. I should have gotten a crew member to help her. What was I thinking? You two are too young to-”

“Leave him alone, Liam.” Zayn sighed. “He’s Niall, what do you honestly think-”

I rolled my eyes. “I didn’t look. I turned away until she needed me to hand her clothes.”

Harry chuckled. “Nialler, erm, we all know you looked.”

I shook my head at him, rolling my eyes again. I must have been around Kora too much lately, I was starting to roll my eyes more and more like she did.

All conversation stopped as we ran out onto the stage right as Kora ended her dance. She smiled at me, wrapping her arms around my waist when I came up beside her.

I threw my arm around her shoulders, squeezing her tight. “Woo!” I yelled into my microphone. “Is my girlfriend amazing or what?”

The audience shouted back at me.

I nodded at the audience before holding a bottle of water out to Kora. She took it gratefully, chugging it down as Liam called Danielle back onto the stage.

“I have an announcement to make!” Louis chirped, giving Kora and I a wicked grin before looking back to the crowd. “Niall proposed to Kora earlier!”

The whole auditorium went silent for a total of two seconds before all chaos broke out.

Kora’s P.O.V.

I flinched when the words came out of Louis’ mouth. The whole arena erupted with chaos; fans were screaming, some were crying, and some were shouting not-so-nice things at me. I took the microphone out of Niall’s hand then ran over to Louis and yanked his away, pressing the two together so it made a loud screeching noise that gained everyone’s attention.

“Louis was joking!” I explained. “Niall did not propose to me. You know those moments when your friend’s boyfriend bends down on one knee to tie his shoe and you jokingly say ‘oh my gosh, he’s proposing!’?” I saw a couple of girls nod. “Louis witnessed that type of situation and that’s what he was talking about.”

Niall took one of the mikes. “I promise I am not proposing anytime soon. Kora’s only sixteen for those of you who didn’t know. Louis-” he sent him an irritated look-“needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.”

“Sorry, mate,” Louis muttered, kicking at the ground. Harry went over to him and slung his arm over his shoulder, telling the other boy it was okay.

The crowd started to calm down.

Liam stepped in. “Okay, now that that crisis is adverted, who’s ready for More Than This?”

The audience gave an enthusiastic shout.

The boys all grabbed their chairs and Josh came down from his drums to join the acoustic circle. I took a seat at Niall’s feet, entertaining myself by poking Josh in the leg and making him make faces at me until the boys were ready to sing.

I looked up at Niall when his solo came, getting lost in his dazzling blue eyes as he sang to me. Butterflies formed in my stomach, but I couldn’t look away and I didn’t want to. Every time I heard him sing it reminded me of how much I had missed his voice and how happy I was to be back with him. He smiled at me as his part ended, leaning down to kiss me on the nose which always made me giggle.

The power in the whole building chose that moment to go out.
