"Um Mads? Don't take this wrong, but you look like shit."
I tilt my head at Nick and narrow my eyes on him. "Really Nick? That wasn't obvious at all!" I spat. He jumped back, holding his arms up in surrender. "Hey hey, no need to get pissy, what's with you?"
I shake my head a rub my face. "Sorry Nick I just... I didn't get any sleep last night."
Mainly because I was up all night worrying about what Ace might do, and why I let him get to me. I contemplated on hundreds of things I could do, or should do, or could've done and should've done. I knew Ace was in a gang, which meant I should've backed off but of course I didn't. I figured he would probably do some gang beat up on me and it honestly kind of scared me.
Another reason I stayed up till 5 am.
I was worried that him and his gang might raid our house and possibly kill us, which I know was overworrying things but I couldn't help it. I guess that's just how anxiety is.
"Why? Did something happen?" He asked, leaning on the locker beside us. He tilted his head in concern. I shook my head. "No I'm fine I just... couldn't sleep." I lied. I couldn't bring up what happened to them. They would just lecture me all over again and I tried at least respecting Ace a little bit. After all, he is still a person and I basically told him I wouldn't tell anyone unless he gave me a reason.
And so far, he hasn't.
Plus that little smirk and wink he did yesterday got me fucked up. I don't know what the hell that meant. And that made me worry more.
"No I think it's something to do wi-"
"Oh hey, what's up, buddy?" I froze at the deep voice beside my ear. Oh no... that could only be...
"A-Ace? Wh-What are you doing here?" Nick stumbled over his words as he looked up in fear at the monster hovering over me.
I turn to look at Ace, who's got one arm on the lockers I'm leaning on and standing over me, located directly behind me. He was close, too close. I liked my personal bubble, and he was in it.
He smirks his toothy grin and throws his head up at Nick. "What's up, Nicky?"
"Nick." I correct without thinking, still staring up at him. He slowly drops his head to look down on me, and his smirk fades, into a fake, evil tiny smile. He rolls his tongue around his cheek, trying to what it seemed to be, holding back his words.
"Nick," He spat. His eyes started turning red just by looking at me. He was angry and it was only 8 A.M. Nice.
"Anyways, Maddie... Can I speak to you? Alone." I was shocked that he even called my by my actual name, but with the tone of his voice, I was kind of iffy about going to speak with him, by ourselves. He seemed angry. But maybe he was trying?
I don't know, I guess we'll see.
I rolled my eyes and glanced at Nick. "I'll be back on a minute, it won't take long." Nick just nodded slowly and confusingly at me. It was obvious that he was shocked and didn't know what to do about Ace asking to speak with me. I mean what could he do? Tell him no? I think all of us knew what would happen then.
I followed Ace to a nearby empty classroom. He walked in and stood beside the door as I walked in. As soon as I entered, he slammed the door shut. I almost jumped, but stopped midway. I acted casual and sat up on the teachers desk, raising my eyebrows at him.
"Alright, what do you want now Wilkins?"
He stomps to me. His eyes still narrow. I swear, I've never seen this boy anything but angry.
