"What...What have you done.." The trembling had yet to cease, voice barely above a whisper. The lanky monster's gaze drifted upward, distraught while the scene replayed itself in his thoughts, fearing the response he would receive.
Silence
That moment of silence, to Papyrus, felt as if it had lasted for hours if not years. To Papyrus, the King's own silence spoke for him, as if the king were unsure himself. A large hand resting on the younger's shoulder, armor clacking with each motion.
"I did what was necessary.."
The low voice providing less comfort than it had all those years ago. "What have you done.." phalanges sinking into the loose earth, Asgore's brows furrowed, when the king hadn't spoken, it was seen as an opportunity to add on. "Necessary..? That was.. necessary..?" Only now had the soldier begun to question his superior, gaze resting on the calm current "Sans.." struggling to release a still word. The mere name introduced newfound rage.
"Was a traitor to monster kind, his death will only bring joy to our people! Those who betray kin must be granted mercy! Sans was too far gone, it was only right to end his misery."
If it hadn't then, Asgore's grip had became tense, Papyrus stalled a creeping wince, the hatred held for his older sibling had faded. Thoughts occupied yet his mind blank.
This.. This was wrong..
The king had forced the soldier to his feet, voice bitter.
"Come now... we must inform the others of the news.."Then, a voice had bellowed within his mind, demanding that he were to refuse. To leave while he still had the chance, but... he had simply ignored the bellowed until the silence overwhelmed.
Sans... Sans was gone, he had nothing left. Papyrus had obliged. Sans was dead, and his only choice was to continue to serve.
Oh.. Oh how erroneous he was..
Alright! If curious about what Asgore said about granting mercy, in the world of HollowBetrayal, mercy is a very twisted concept, a twisted decision in most occurrences. It refers to not sparing one, but putting one's life to an end. Permanently. An act seen as "selfless" in the kingdom, selfish to the "traitors"
