Chapter 1

"Do you know the answers to this?" My best friend Kimberly asks me referring to our math worksheet on Logarithms making me laugh

"You're seriously asking the girl who absolutely sucks at math if she has the answers to this?" I ask and she groans

"Ugh I forgot you're a stupid ass when it comes to math" She pouts and I give her the finger

"No talking and no disrespectful hand gestures" Our college Professor, Professor Adams snaps at us and we both roll our eyes at him

When class is over Kim and I practically run out like we always do everyday, thank god it's our last year of college

"So how's your mom holding up?" Kim asks me and I shrug my shoulders

"She's sad but it's for the best"

"I'm just glad she finally split from that asshole" She growls referring to my father and I nod agreeing with her

"She's gonna sell the house and buy a new one, to many bad memories in that house to her I guess" I reply and Kim frowns

"But you've lived in that house since you were nine, aren't you sad?"

"Like my mom said, to many bad memories" I say and Kim nods understandingly

"So what's the plan, where are you guys moving?"

"Vegas" I mumble

"What?!" Kim shouts making me wince, I knew she wouldn't be happy with us moving four hours away

"Why all the way over there?!" She asks shocked

"Because my grandma, grandpa, and aunt are all there"

"And you're gonna go?" She asks

"Obviously, where else would I go?"

"I know you Gabs, you wouldn't wanna move to Vegas of all places"

"It's not about what I want it's about my mom, and if she wants to go there then I'm going too" I say and she nods sadly

"What about you? What's your plans after we graduate? I ask her

"Staying here of course, it's home" She says

She's right. It is home here. But not for much longer for me.

"Alright I need to go, my class is going to start, see you tomorrow?" I ask Kim and she nods with a smile, we quickly hug and head our separate ways

"Hey Elle" A voice that belongs to Grayson Beverly the biggest flirt I've ever met but also my best friend says

"Hey" I say with a small smile sitting next to him like I always do

My name is Gabriella, but when we met Freshman year he didn't wanna call me by my full name because it's to long and he also didn't wanna call me Gabs, Gaby, or Ella as a nick name because everyone else already uses those. So he came up with Elle even though I have an A at the end of my name. It doesn't make sense but hey that's Grayson for you.

"How are you? How's your mom?" He asks softly

"We're okay" I say with a shrug

"I'm really sorry about how it all went down with your parents" he says sadly and I just nod

Me too Gray. Me too.

"Alright class lets begin" Professor Bryan says beginning class

But I can't pay attention because all I can think about is my parents.

Growing up my parents marriage has always been horrible, but over the past few years after I graduated high school it only seemed to get worse but we got through it.

That is until one day when I came home early from my late night college class because my professor had to cancel due to car problems, to see my little brother screaming crying in his room because our father was beating our mother.

I had enough.

On instinct I grabbed the nearest object to me which in my case was my mothers hard wooden jewelry box that belonged to my great grandma and practically bashed his head in with it.

He of course tumbled to the floor and I grabbed my mother and brother and practically shoved them in my car and drove away before he could get us.

I drove us to a hotel and called the cops.
Three days later they found my father and he's been in prison ever since.

This happened a month ago.

"Elle class is over" Gray says grabbing my shoulder

I nod and follow him out to go sit at our usual table like we always do after this class.

"We're selling the house" I tell him as soon as we sit down

"That's good, do you know where you guys are moving yet?" He asks and I nod

"Vegas" I say simply and his eyes widen

"Vegas as in Las Vegas Nevada that's four hours away from here?"

"That's the one" I say with a small laugh

"Why?" He asks in a sad tone

"My moms family is there Gray and what my mom needs is to be with her family"

"Okay I understand that but what does Elle need?" He asks obviously referring to me

What do I need?

"To be with her mother and brother" I say simply and he just nods

"When?" He asks

"After graduation" I say and he sucks in a breath

"I'm really gonna miss you around here Elle" he says sadly and I nod with tears forming in my eyes

"I'm gonna miss you too Gray" I say my voice cracking and pull him into a hug which he's at first shocked from because I'm not the hugging type at all

"No matter what you know I'll always be here for you right Elle?" He mumbles into my hair playing with the ends of it

He loves playing with my hair.

I nod snuggling into him closer.

Of course I know that.
