"I'm sorry did you say Nevada?" Andrew asks
"As in another state four hours away?" Karen asks shocked and I nod at the both of them
"But why?" Karen asks sadly and I sigh
"My moms side of the family lives over there and we just think during this time we should be with them you know?" I ask but they just stay silent
"I can't believe this" Karen says quietly
"I know this sucks and I'm so sad to be leaving you guys I really am bu- you can stay with us?" Karen asks in a hopeful tone cutting me off and I sigh
"I can't leave my mom" I say softly and she just looks down sadly
"Mom this is hard enough for her as it is don't make her feel worse" Gray says to his mother
"I'm sorry I'm not trying to I just can't imagine you not being here, your like the daughter I've never had and now you're leaving" She says a tear escaping her eyes and my heart practically shatters into a million pieces
"Karen I'm so sorry" I say sadly and she just nods
"Will you excuse me?" She asks standing up and beginning to walk away
"Hun" Andrew says reaching out for her but she pushes his hand away and walks upstairs and tears immediately fall down my face
"Hey don't cry Elle" Gray says wrapping an arm around me
" I didn't mean to upset her" I say sadly
"Oh honey it's fine she's just sad your leaving but she'll come around she just loves you a lot we both do" He says with a smile that I return and Gray nods
I don't see Karen for the rest of the night which breaks my heart but I just let her be.
"Please thank Karen for me for the dinner" I tell Andrew as we hug and he nods
"And tell her that I'm sorry" I say softly and he sighs
"You have nothing to be sorry for you understand?" He asks and I nod and we finally say goodbye
"I'm sorry about my mom, she just loves you a lot" He says opening the car door for me and I immediately get it in
"No don't apologize I know she does and I love her too I love you all which makes leaving harder" I say with a sigh snapping on my seat belt while he starts the car and begins driving
"It really is gonna suck when your gone, who else is gonna still come to my football games and cheer me on?" He asks with a frown making me laugh
"You still have Emily" I say giving him a nudge
"Yeah how could I forget" he mutters
"Hey what's going on between you too?" I ask
"Nothing she's just been clingy lately" he shrugs and I gasp putting my hand to my chest
"Oh no everybody knows Grayson Beverly doesn't do clingy" I gasp earning an eye roll along with a smirk from him
"See even you know and you're not even my girl so why doesn't she know?" He asks shaking his head and I just shrug
"If you don't like her then dump her, you can't just string her along and then break her heart like all the others Gray " I say with an eye roll and he huffs dramatically
"I know Elle" He sighs and I decide to leave it alone
"Remember when you first brought me over to meet your parents and they thought we were dating?" I ask with a laugh
"Oh god mom was so mad at me when I said no, she even called me an idiot when you left" He grumbles and I burst out laughing
"Are you serious ?" I ask through my laughter and he nods with a smile
"And then she started planning our wedding" I say beginning to giggling again
"She still is!" He says causing me to gasp
"Oh no" I say with a smile and he laughs while shaking his head
"Ugh what am I gonna do when you leave?" He pouts
"Hey you still have Em and Kim" I remind him
"I'd trade them in a second for you" he grumbles making me smile
"I'll still come visit Gray"
"I know, it's just not gonna be the same you know?" He asks and I nod understandingly
"No more spontaneous trips to the movies or going for shakes at 2am" He says with a frown
"Gra-and no more calling to ask you if I can come crash at your house when my dad pisses me off and I won't be able to comfort you when you're upset about something" he says softly cutting me off
"Theirs face time" I say
"It's not the same, I won't be able to see your face or play with your hair or touch you" He says softly and my heart rate picks up dramatically
Touch me?
"I know" I whisper and he gives me a longing look before paying attention to the road again until we finally pull up to my drive way but none of us move or speak and just stare at my house
"Is your mom home?" He asks
"No she's at her friends for the night"
"Oh, do you want me to stay?" He asks
"No it's fine I'll be okay" I say and he nods and the silence returns
He gets out and comes around my my side to open my door like he always does to let me out and we both walk up to my door step.
"Thanks for the ride" I say looking up to him but he avoids my gaze and nods
"Hey you okay?" I ask reaching my hand up to touch his face but he flinches away from my touch making me frown
"Yeah just tired" he says putting on a fake smile but I just nod
"Goodnight Elle" He whispers and kisses me of the forehead like he always does and walks back to his car
I watch him get in and he gives me a final wave which I return and then he's gone.
I walk inside my house to be greeted by my dog Charlie who excitedly jumps up and down waiting to be held by me which I do immediately and he starts licking my face.
"It's just you and me tonight" I whisper to him and kiss his head as he snuggles into my chest
It's always just me and him these days.
