Chapter Eight // Aria's Alleged Boyfriend

p e r r i e:

“Ready?” Evie says.

“For what?” I mumble distractedly, clicking around on Aria's twitter for any mentions of Little Mix scandals. So far there seems to be none.

“Mr McCarthy's exam?”

She has my attention now. “Exam?”

Evie rolls her eyes. “Yeah! The one on everything we've done this year. It counts as a quarter of our Christmas grade!”

I pale. I wonder if Aria has a straight–A record. If so, I'm about to destroy it. Obliterate it. Blow it to pieces.

I debate cheating. I mean, it's wrong, but it's for someone else. I'm not Aria, so I have no right to destroy her academic rep.

No, I can't...the guilt would live with me forever.

Evie has taken out her history book and stuck her nose into it. I rush over to her and start cramming. What the hell is this? I haven't done this since I was 16. Bloody hell.

I snatch the textbook out of her hands and scan the page, all the information jamming together in an incomprehensible lump in my mind. I'm not sure how long I stand there revisiting the Cold War but the next time I look, Evie stands at the door with her bag.

“Anytime today would be nice.”

“Evie,” I moan as she drags me into her car. “Evie, I'm gonna fail.”

“No you're not, you've been studying for weeks.”

I haven't!

Evie leaves me once we arrive at my locker. I yank it open and fumble for my history book. “Exam?” The boy three lockers down asks. When a silence prevails, I realise the question is directed at me.

“Er, yeah?”

“Who's?”

What was that teacher's name? “Mr McCarthy.”

He grimaces. “Ooh, rough. You're Aria, right? I'm Aaron. I'm in Year 12.”

Aaron has dirty blonde hair, a strong jaw and baby blue eyes. He doesn't seem to be particularly muscular, but he's still better looking than Josh Tierney in my opinion.

“Yes,” I mumble quietly. “I'm Aria. How did you know?”

“I know your friend Diane Mulhall,” He explains. A loud clanging sounds overhead and we both jump. “Well,” He continues. “Time to get to class. Good luck on the exam, Aria.”

“Thanks.”

I feel like I'm bloody cheating on Zayn.

I can feel his eyes boring holes know my back as I retreat.

Now which way to the classroom?

I'm sure it's left.
