37.) The Battle

~~~~Four days later~~~~

    Dream's P.O.V.

    "Goodbye!" she called before going through the portal. Mist, Petal, and Ray waved goodbye, and Dream could see a hint of sadness in their eyes. Dream smiled, hugging them all and going through the portal.

    "Stay safe!" was all Dream heard from Petal before she had to close the portal. When Dream turned around, all she saw was darkness. Yes, she could still see the others, but everything else was pitch-black.

    "Er... where are we...?" she asked, tugging at Cross's sleeve. Cross checked his AU Checker (I don't know what to call it) and continuously tapped on it.

    "I... I don't know," he said, fear growing in his eyes. "It won't tell me where we-!"

    "Look!" Cross was cut of by Palette. He gave her a hard stare before realizing what she was pointing to. "I think it's the Orb of Healing!" They ran over to it, quickly examining it before letting Palette take it.

    "It looks like the Orb of Healing," she sighed, eying it carefully. "I think we should go now."

    "Wait!" hissed Fresh, putting her arm in front of Palette. "Something doesn't seem right." Fresh drew her hand away from her, checking out her surroundings. Suddenly, her eyes turned into fear and shock. "Wait a second..." she turned to face them, her eyes full of panick. "I... I recognize this place. Oh, no! Quick, Cross! Get us out of here! We are not safe, because this is where-!" Fresh didn't get to finish her sentence. She was caught in a cage of black tentacles. She struggled, trying to get out. Dream felt her heart beat faster. This was already getting intense. Suddenly, a black Alston with tentacles and one eye showing emerged from the darkness. He grinned sinisterly at them, chuckling.

    "You're good," he hissed. Dream froze, realizing who that was. That was the alternate version of her dear brother, Nightmare. She felt all of the breath knocked out of her. She was looking at a corrupted version of her brother.

    "Brother..." she breathes, a tear streaming down her face. Nightmare glared it her, baring his teeth.

    "Who are you calling 'brother'?!" he snarled. "The only brother I have is that pathetic skeleton, but we've already taken care of him, haven't we, Killer?" he asked, turning around. The black stuff cleared away like mist, and two chained-up figures were before them, and they were both skeletons. One wore a blue jacket and a grey sweater. He also wore black shorts with two white stripes down them and white slippers. Dream guessed that he was Killer, because the other skeleton looked nothing like a 'Killer'. The other skeleton wore a blue jacket with two little yellow lines across it. He wore a blue sweater and blue shorts with two yellow stripes down each side. He had light blue slippers with yellow stars on them. Killer glared at Nightmare and growled.

    "What's your problem?!" he hissed. "Outer and I are just friends! What's wrong with that?!" Nightmare tightened his grip on Fresh, making her gasp for air. A stream a blue arose from Nightmare's remaining eye.

    "You want to know what's wrong?! You betrayed me by befriending a skeleton who protects their AU!" he snarled. "Because of you, he knows our plans, and he's so close to figuring out how to protect his AU! The Dark sent us to destroy other AUs, and you disobey him like this?!" Killer and Outer stared at Nightmare, their eyes pleading for mercy. Nightmare rolled his one eye and growled. "So, that's how it's gonna be, huh?" he asked, the mist from his eyes dying away. "I guess you're gonna have to learn it the hard way, along with this brat!" he hissed, dropping Fresh onto the ground. PaperJam ran over to her to make sure she was alright. Suddenly, black stuff started to drip from her eyes like tears. She coughed vigorously, her eyes growing wild.
