third person

The date was going pretty well so far. Then again, they were just sitting together with their attention fixed to the big screen in front of them. If they were still sitting beside each other, it was a success.

"Uh, are you alright?" Luke whispered to Jay, suddenly taking notice of her tight grip on the arm rest.

She shushed him without turning from the film, leaving him with a puzzled expression on his face. Ashton giggled from his other side, making him whip his head to face him.

"Sorry, that was funny." Ashton whispered to him after receiving a look that seemed to ask 'what's so funny?'.

Ashton hadn't been paying much attention to Black Panther, he'd been focused on making sure Luke doesn't try any funny business. And goofing off with Calum just to get scolded by the surrounding viewers.

"What? Is she like, okay?" Luke asked, not seeing the humor of the situation.

"Oh my, Luke she's just excited about Michael B. Jordan." Ashton explained.

Luke nodded his head, feigning understanding. He didn't even know who that was, but still felt the envy in his system. He had a few celebrity crushes of his own, but he wanted Jay's attention to himself.

"Hey, want some popcorn?" He asked her, as an attempt to gain some of her heed.

She took a handful and crunched it loudly, her eyes still on the attractive man in the movie instead of the needy boy beside her.

"You know, I can act too." Luke tried to gloat, but heard Ashton choke on his drink and Calum snort.

"You've been doing a pretty bad job of acting like you haven't been staring at me this whole time, so I doubt it."

Luke felt the blood rush to his face and sunk back into his seat with an embarrassed smile.

"It's okay, it's cute." She grabbed his hand with a small smile and turned her head back.

After the movie, the four met up again for lunch.

"That was a pretty good film, right Jay?" Ashton teased once they'd been seated.

She shot him a glare before he let out a yelp.

"Kicking people isn't nice."

"Me? Kick you? Never." Jay acted innocent as the table let out laughs.

The waitress came by with their drinks quickly before scurrying off to another booth.

"She gave me a kids menu!" Jay whined, looking over the coloring sheet with food items along the side. Puzzles and word games were scattered all across it, and she was given three full crayons on the side.

"Actually this sounds pretty good." She pointed at the silly font on the menu.

"Me and Ashton have to pee really bad, we'll be right back." Calum smiled and dragged the boy out of the booth.

"What? I just went!"

"You have to pee, come on."

Jay and Luke sat awkwardly, waiting for the two to return.

"So." Jay spoke, tapping her pink nails against the table.

"So." Luke replied, stirring the straw in his beverage around the glass.

The thickness of the air was practically suffocating Luke. He didn't want to have a small conversation about the weather and school. What he really wanted was to know was her favorite songs, her shower thoughts, her most bizarre dreams, everything that wasn't 'so'.

But he couldn't form anything with his lips that didn't come out uncomfortably.

"I don't understand this riddle." She muttered with a blue crayon in her hand, studying over the words on the paper.

Luke chuckled, "It's a children's riddle. Read it to me."

"What kind of flower likes to kiss?"

Luke let out a hum and pondered for a second before saying "Tulips."

"Oh. Well, wanna play me in tic tac toe?" Jay asked, extending a red crayon.

"Only if you're okay with losing."

"In your dreams, Hemmings."

Overall lunch went well, and before they knew it they were on their way out.

Ashton went to start his car after shooting Jay a wink and two mug thumbs up, while Calum stayed inside to go to the bathroom for real that time.

Once again, Jay and Luke found themselves alone. But neither of them were complaining. It may have seemed like the two were moving quickly, having just met but already developing feeling for each other which just swell with every minute spent talking.

"So, Jay." Luke gained the girl's attention.

"What?"

They plonked down on a bench outside the restaurant, absorbing the bright sunlight and finding bliss in the warmth of it.

"I had a lot of fun today. So thanks for coming. I-uh, I think it'd be nice to do this again soon. Without our loser friends. U-Unless you want them there. Whatever you want, really. I just thou-"

"Luke." Jay cut him off, laughing lightly. That's when Luke felt the discomfiture and blushed bright pink.

"I'd like that." Jay smiled, feeling her own face hearing up as well.

"Thank goodness."

Ashton's car pulled up to the curb, cueing Jay that it was time to part ways, making them stand from their cozy positions on the bench.

"Oh! I forgot to pay you back for the film!" Jay remembered, fumbling for cash.

Luke shook his head with a grin, "No, I chose to pay. Keep your money, please."

"Luke, I'm gonna feel guilty please just-"

Luke rolled his eyes and pressed his lips to hers. He cupped his hands around her face when she kissed back, feeling the sparks in his chest she'd always given him, just to a greater extent.

They must've looked so odd to all the bystanders, one on her tippy toes and the other crouching down.

They pulled away after a few moments with starry eyes and racing hearts.

"Keep your money." Luke said, feeling a wave of confidence overcome him.

She nodded, stuffing her money away with a flabbergasted expression.

"Text me?"

"Y-Yeah! Of course!"

Ashton smirked from the driver's seat. He hoped Luke was worth her time.
