○BRAD○
The police cars all pulled into the snow-covered driveway of the abandoned house. We were told to stay inside as the police looked for the family. The
Paramedics looked at Alex making sure she was alright. I couldn't help but stare at the door, hoping, praying that within a matter of moments Becca and Michael would race in, and I would have my sister back, really back and we could go home, go back to fighting over stupid things like coffee mugs and who got to ride in the front seat. If i could hope for anything in life, I would give up my hopes in going to yale, id give up my football scholarship, id do anything to have my little sister back, to be able to hug her and tell her there's no monsters anymore, and that i did some magical juju ritual to protect her, but that was unlikely at this point. Five gunshots echoed, distant but close, close enough to hear the shots. I flinched at each one, hoping that those sick bastard were gone. I looked to Derek, we both looked to the police officer talking into his radio and he nodded, relief filled me. They were dead. Then anticipation to when Michael and Becca would come filled me. It seemed like every second that passed now was longer and more painful then the last. The door opened, and my heart skipped a beat, jolting up from where I sat, I seen my and Derek's parents, Derek's mom and dad running to embrace Alex who couldn't stop the flood of tears spewing from her eyes, my parents looked to me and limbered over.
"She's with a friend, we just have to wait until they come." I told them my father gave me an understanding look as he hugged my mom and they sat beside me, my dad rested his right hand on my shoulder for support, we all looked at the door waiting patiently for the door to open and Becca to come in. It reminded me of waiting for the last chime of the bell to signify schools ending for summer. We sat there for a while, Derek, Alex and their parents sat with us, police officers eventually decided to go and look for them, we continued to sit, stare and wait hope filling us.
