A/N: ANGST WARNING!!! I wanted to try writing something quick and angsty to make up for me not writing for what feels like a year now? Idk
But, before the story, I wanted to thank you guys for reading and voting on the book, it really means a lot to me. I know I don't really upload new stories a lot but I appreciate your patience and thoughtful comments (I love reading your guys' comments and I try to read every single one! :) ). Now, back to the story!
You couldn't stand it anymore.
(C/N) was driving you insane.
The way he combed his hair with his hand whenever he was frustrated, his cute laugh, the way he smiled whenever you two had the chance to hang out. You always caught yourself glancing at him, your eyes drinking in the features of his face. His soft complexion, the sparks of color in his eyes, his cheekbones, his dimples..
..his lips.
You shook your head, heat rushing to your cheeks. You were done staying awake on those countless nights thinking of (C/N). You were done with not being able to think straight.
I'm gonna tell him how I feel.
Today.
You whipped out your phone and tapped on (C/N)'s contact. You drew in a sharp breath, and quickly typed a message.
" Hey, can I come over? I need to tell you something. It's important. "
You sat on your bedroom floor staring at your phone, waiting impatiently for a response. You jumped back when you heard your phone ring out. You checked your messages from (C/N).
"Ooo, sounds scary. Sure, just grab something for the trip here, heard it was supposed to be raining later"
You let out a tense chuckle and grabbed a hoodie from your closet and rushed downstairs. Grabbing your keys from the counter in the kitchen, you yelled that you were heading out and went on your way, noting the light downfall. You tensely drove to (C/N)'s house, your thoughts clouded to the point that you swerved several times to nearly miss other cars.
You pulled into (C/N)'s driveway and took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. You walked up to the door, your whole body freezing up. After willing yourself to move, you raised your hand to knock on the door. You knock on the door twice and waited.
A few minutes passed. You knocked again, this time more forcefully.
No response.
You hesitantly jingled the doorknob, which happened to be unlocked. You slowly opened the door, unnerved by the silence of the house. You ran up to (C/N)'s bedroom, expecting him to be there. However he wasn't, so you started to search around the house. First the kitchen, then the living room. No such luck.
As much as you hated invading other peoples' privacy, you searched around the other bedrooms. You finally reached the master bedroom, where (C/N)'s parents slept. You couldn't help but notice the strong, pungent smell coming from the bathroom. You slowly opened the door, lifting the cuff of your hoodie to cover your nose. When you saw what was in there, your stomach dropped.
(C/N)'s parents and siblings laid in a bathtub filled with bleach, each with multiple gunshots to the temple and chest. Their eyes bulged out in terror, their mouth hung open in a mute scream, the bleach making their skin ghostly white and leaving blisters.
You stomach churned and your head began to spin. You felt yourself dry heaving and ran out of the house. You vomited on the lawn, shakily clutching your stomach. You let out a fit of coughs and wiped your mouth with the sleeve of your hoodie. You looked up when you heard a loud boom above your head. With another crack of thunder and lighting, the skies let out a huge downfall of rain. You ran to the house for cover and quickly called the police, shakily explaining what you just saw. When the police stated that they were on their way, you hung up and dropped to your knees, sobbing. (C/N)'s family loved you and you loved them back, and now they were gone.
You froze in realization.
Where is (C/N)?
You desperately searched the house for any clues to (C/N)'s whereabouts. You noticed a small blood trail leading to the backdoor of the house. You ripped the door open and desperately shrieked out (C/N)'s name. You ran out, looking around. You saw a hole in the fence with a piece of (C/N)'s clothing stuck to it. You squeezed through the hole and started wandering the forest behind his house, desperately calling out his name.
You shivered, your clothes soaked with rain. You continued to call out (C/N)'s name weakly. You had probably been out here for an hour or so, and it was finally taking a toll on your body. You squinted your eyes, your body threatening to fall from exhaustion. You looked around to see that you were around a lake surrounded by willow trees. Your head turned when you heard a noise from the closest tree. You could make out a shape hiding under a large tree hole. You walked over to the tree, the noise growing louder as you drew closer. You pushed the leaves out of the way to see (C/N), his head facing down, his arms hugging his knees close, his body rocking with sobs.
"(C/N).." you whispered out softly. (C/N) quickly lifted his head in surprise. He quickly wiped his eyes.
"You shouldn't be out here! You're gonna get sick!" he choked out, grabbing you by the hand and leading you to the tree hole. (C/N) quickly took his shirt off and handed it to you.
"Take your hoodie off and put this on, it's dry." (C/N) demanded. Sensing the tense atmosphere, you put his shirt on, noticing a bloodstain towards the shoulder. I looked at (C/N)'s now bare upper half and saw that he had been shot in the shoulder.
"Are you ok?!" I choked out tremulously, searching his face.
"I-I'm ok.. I'm ok.." (C/N) whispered out blankly. He slowly turned to face me, his gaze locking with mine. He started to tear up.
"But my parents...my brothers and sisters.." (C/N) sputtered out, tears running down his face. You moved closer to him, putting your hand on his to comfort him. He looked back at me through squinted eyes.
"We told Dad.. we told him not to mess with those people! They- they were always asking for too much in too little time and now..." (C/N) choked out, covering his face with his hands in defeat.
"I ran away ya know? Before things got..too hairy. I could've helped, I-I could've.." (C/N) stated wobbly, his hands shaking in anger and frustration. I felt myself start to tear up. I moved closer to (C/N), wrapping my arms around his back and pulling him into a hug. He slowly hugged back, burying his face into the crook of my neck, his sobs rumbling against it.
"(C/N), it wasn't your fault, ok? You made the right decision. You're no less weaker than before." I whispered soothingly into his ear. (C/N) pulled away and stared at me sadly. I smiled at him, gently rubbing the tears from his cheeks with my thumb.
"I was afraid I lost you too. " I confessed shakily . "You don't know how relieved I am to see your face again." I admitted. (C/N) lifted his hand to cup my cheek, and pressed our foreheads together. We both closed our eyes, taking deep breathes and listening to the rain pouring around us. I opened my eyes and kissed the (C/N)'s forehead tenderly, my hand cupping his cheek. (C/N) pulled me closer so that I was laying on his chest. I slowly closed my eyes, hearing the soft drum of his heartbeat.
"You're not alone (C/N). We'll get through this."
