Y/N's POV
I lean over the side of my bed and throw up. I should probably go to the doctor. I've been getting sick often for the past week. Maybe talking to Stu yesterday made me throw up even more. Maybe he has some weird effect on me, making me queasy and sick when I think about him.
Russel rubs my back. "Why are you putting off going to the doctor, Y/N?"
"I'm afraid I'll find out I have some weird disease or something."
"But if you do, it's best to find out soon."
"I know, I know. I'm just afraid."
He pats my back softly, "I'll take you. Ash is getting her nails done, so I have nothing better to do."
"Are you guys going to move out after your wedding?" I rub my forehead.
"Yeah. We have a house we're thinking about getting."
"What's stopping you from moving out now? Not that I don't want you guys here, but--"
"It's Noodle. She's had so many people leave her, and I don't want to leave her too."
"Oh. I think she'd understand, Russ. She's almost old enough to move out herself."
"I know." He whispers.
I wrap my arms around him and give him a hug. "We have to let her on her own one day, Russ."
"It's just hard." He mumbles.
"She'll still visit, she won't leave you." I pat his shoulder.
I feel him wipe his eyes and then take a deep breath. "Right, time to get to the doctor's, yeah?"
"Okay, you big teddy bear."
The ride to the doctor's office is brief, filled with the sounds of music and rain. I walk up and put my name in. The receptionist tells me an hour and I force a smile, then groan and complain to Russel.
"An hour isn't that long. Play on your phone of something." He shrugs.
"But it's an hour, Russ!" I whine.
"If you wait the hour you can find out what's wrong and maybe get medicine."
"Fine." I cross my arms. The hour drags on and on. I get bored of my phone and look over at Russel to see if I can talk to him. Instead, I see him sleeping, sitting up. How does someone even do that? His hands are folded over his stomach and his head is bent down. I chuckle because he reminds me of a grandpa. I check the time on my phone and groan when I notice it's only been half an hour. I look around and make eye contact with a good looking guy. My face heats up, eyes widen, and I look away. Way to go, Y/N. I hear footsteps and see the man that I made eye contact with.
I smile and cringe at myself, "Hi." Hi? That's it? You should've said something cooler like 'Hey, come here often?'
"Hey." He replies, a slight smile on his face. "What're you here for?"
"Just checking to see what's wrong with me, I guess. What about you?" Duh.
"Cancer. I'm getting set up with a schedule for chemo today." He shrugs, like it's no big deal.
"Damn. What type?" I ask.
"Leukemia." He shrugs again, and this time I see the worry and dread in his eyes.
I stand up and instantly wrap my arms around him, squeezing tight.
"Nobody has cared, not even my own mother." He whispers.
"I'm sorry." It's the first thing I think to say.
"I'm only twenty-five. I have a life to live."
I pull away, "Give me your number. I'll help you have a fun life to live."
"Really?"
"Really." I nod.The rest of the time goes by much faster. I make small talk with Jay, which is the guy's name, and learn we have a lot in common. We both don't know our dads, we both had siblings, and we both went to the same college. He and I would start working together on Monday, he just got a job where I work. Jay is called about fifteen minutes before me to a different doctor and Russ wakes up shortly after Jay leaves. Russel rubs his eyes, yawns, then smiles at me.
"You didn't leave?"
"It was tempting, but no. You drove me here and I'm not gonna reach into your pockets to steal your car keys." I shudder.
"Good choice." He nods.
"Y/N? The doctor is ready for you now." The receptionist calls out.
Russ and I stand up in unison.Doctor Newman is a short woman with greying hair and blue eyes.
"Hello there! You must be the boyfriend!" She says to Russel.
"Oh-- no. Just the friend." He cringes and smiles back.
"My bad. So, Y/N. What's been going on?" She directs her attention back to me.
"Every morning, I throw up. I feel hungover, but I haven't drank in months. Half the time, I can't hold down food anymore." I explain.
She nods softly chewing her lip. "I think I'll run a few tests." She hands me a cup.
"What's this for?" I ask.
"You have to pee in it." She smiles.
"Like a drug test? I've never even seen a drug in real life, let alone--"
"Just pee in it." Russel interrupts me.I awkwardly stand above the toilet and try to pee in the cup. I hear Russel snickering at me struggling. "Not funny! This isn't easy." I yell out. All that does is make him laugh harder. After a few minutes, I figure out how to go into the cup. I hand it to Newman and sit down, embarrassed.
"You got a little on your pants." Russel giggles.
My face heats up, "I know."
"This test should only take five minutes at most." Newman informs me.
"What's the test for?"
"UTI, kidney diseases, diabetes, things like that." She puts the cup in this weird compartment thing and I shrug.
"Okay."Russel and I play ninja while waiting for the test to be finished. I beat him two times in a row, then he beats me. I swear out and then get a look from Newman. I then apologise and we stop playing.
Newman smiles at me, "I've figured out what's causing you to be sick."
"Really?" I beam.
"Congratulations, you two. Your future child is going to be beautiful."
"What?" Russel and I say in unison.
"You're pregnant!" Newman beams and my mood is crushed.
"Shit."
"Y/N." Newman gives me a pointed look.
"Sorry."
Russel and I don't talk on the drive home. I sob while he keeps his eyes on the road. Once we get home, I wipe my eyes, fix my makeup, and walk into the house. Russel stops me before I open the door.
"You can do this. I'll help you, and so will Ash."
"You think so?"
"I know so."
I open the door and see Stu sitting on the couch, next to Noodle. Russel and I share confused glances.
"Hey guys! 2D came to visit!"
"How does he know we live here?" I raise an eyebrow.
"I told him!" Noodle smiles.
"Oh." I respond.Stu and I exchange glances. He puts his hands up in defense. I narrow my eyes into a glare. Leave my home alone. I glare one last time and walk into my room. Then, I lock the door and crumble all over again.
