A silent ringing filled my ears, as I sat in pure devastation. My mouth hung open, like I was catching flies, as my dad would say. Well, my "dad".
"We have already contacted your parents and they will be on a flight out tomorrow to meet you. Do you have anyone that you can stay with?" Detective Myanna seemed happy for me, as if I had just received the best news of life.
This was the exact opposite of that, my life had just come crashing down from it's not-so-high perch. Even though I wasn't living the greatest life of them all, at least I thought it was true. It was then it hit me, that I had been staring a lie in the face for years, and the worst part was, I never noticed. I never thought otherwise, for he was all I'd ever known. When it all boiled down though, it was his fault. He chose to take me, and it wasn't his decision. By the sounds of it, my real parents had gotten back on track. Why did he have to do this to me?
"Yeah, I going to hang out at my friend's house," I said coolly, though I was sill stiff. I played it off as if it was still just the shock of finding out the news. "If it's okay, I'm going to go now."
"Of course," Detective Myanna smiled sweetly once more, then opened the door to let me out.
When I got home, the sun was barely setting, and I stopped inside the doorway. The whole house was horrible, I thought it was so nice once, but now it disgusted me. I despised it and everything about it. Every footstep I had heard inside it, every memory of it. Too many terrible things had happened there. I wanted to get out, I needed to get out, and yet I stayed.
I wandered numbly into the kitchen, and stood at the counter. I was angry, and sad, and confused and about a million other feelings. Somewhere in my jumble of emotions, happiness stood, sticking out like a sore thumb within the terror inside of my head. I held onto that feeling, but it was slipping.
I needed to do something, so I walked over to a cabinet where we kept plates. Opening the cupboard, I hesitated. My fingers grazed a clean white plate, and I picked it up lightly. I thought about smashing it, but thought about the mess I'd have to clean up. I placed the plate back in the cupboard, and walked upstairs.
Instead of turning right at the top, to go into my room, I turned left and walked along the balcony towards my dad's room. I saw nothing that I could break, as it was mostly clothes and toiletries, so I strutted into his office, which much like my room overlooked the street. I walked around his desk, and sat in his chair. This is what the world looked like to him. I opened his computer, but it was password protected. So, I picked it up, not bothering to unplug it, but simply just waiting until the cord ran out and the plug flew out of it. The I opened the window, and looked at the driveway below. His car sat there, the sunroof directly downwards. I smiled maliciously to myself, the threw with all my might, the laptop out the window and watched as it smashed the sunroof.
I saw my error seconds before the computer hit the glass however. As it came into contact, it didn't shatter the glass, but cracked it enough to set off the car alarm. It blared through the street as I raced to the kitchen to grab the spare keys. Rushing to the front hall, I continuously pressed the button to silence it, but the damage was already done. Neighbours up and down the street, were peaking theirs heads out their doors. I hid where I couldn't be seen from any windows, but was forced to come out when I heard a knock on the door.
Hesitant I peered out the blinds before opening the door. It was Toby, so I opened the door quickly and pulled him inside, before shutting the door quickly again.
"What the hell are you doing?" He asked in a tone that made me wish I had never opened the door.
"Nothing, you?" I asked trying to sound innocent, but sounding even more guilty.
