My father had his hands resting on the back of his neck, and a shocked look appeared on his face when he saw me. I stood still as a tree, and stared at him in shock. He was pushed into the back of a police car, and an officer beckoned me over.
"Are you Miss Elsabeth Cannes?" She asked in a polite voice.
"Ummm, yeah," I said, still wondering what had happened. All the police cars pulled away except for one, which I assume belonged to the officer I was talking to.
"Alright, I'm afraid that you'll have to come down to the station for questioning," she smiled sweetly, but painfully.
"Why?" I asked, and she looked startled to hear me ask this.
"I don't know if you know what just happened, but you father was arrested. We will need to interview you, please come with me," she seemed to pity me.
I followed her, and she opened the back door of the police car. I climbed in reluctantly, then sat silently for the short ride to the station. If only I had walked along the street instead of the long way through the woods, I would've seen them coming. Maybe even been there when it happened.
Inside the police station, I was lead past the interview room in which I had been not only earlier that day, but also days before. The twisting halls of the station were becoming familiar, like the face of a long-lost friend, and I didn't think that that was a good thing.
"Miss Elsabeth Marie Tanya Cannes, it appears you have been here a lot this past week, all for things that you didn't do," Liam's mom, Detective Myanna, smiled at me. Her smile was comforting, but also made me cautious of my every word.
"Yes, it's been a bit of a roller coaster," I replied.
"Do you know why you're here now?" she asked me.
"My dad was arrested?" I was unsure.
"Yes, do you know why your father was arrested?" she asked.
"No."
"Could you please confirm for me that your father is indeed Mr. Jeremy Andrew Cannes?"
"Yes, that's him," it was odd to hear my fathers name read out to me like that.
"Do you remember your mother?" She asked, and I was caught off-guard. No one had asked about my mother in years. I didn't even remember her name.
"No, she died in a car accident when I was very young," I told her, and she didn't quite look satisfied.
"Do you remember a father other than the one you have now," she asked, and I thought it was a stupid question. "Before you answer, really think back."
"No, why are you asking this?" I was supremely confused as to her questioning tactics.
"We have been recently informed, and looked into the fact that you are not Miss Elsabeth Marie Tanya Cannes," she said this like it would be a huge revelation, but I just didn't understand.
"That's my name though, if that's not me than who am I?"
"We believe that you are Miss Ardene Louise Cambelle, and that your father is not who he says he is either," she finished talking, and I could tell by the look on her face that I looked extremely offended.
"So, you're accusing me of what, identity theft?" I didn't know what she was implying, but I was who I said I was.
"No, we believe that you were kidnapped at a very young age," she said this, and I thought hard back in my memories.
