The room was so hot it was unbearable. My body was covered in sweat and soot from crawling through the house. The red flames licked at my skin. The house was collapsing around me. I had to find Mother and Father though. I had to make sure they were alright. I shoved my small body through the broken part of a door and the sight that met me caused me to scream.

Sir?

My mother lay in the floor. Her body charred and blackened as she reached towards my father. Her mouth gaping opened in a silent cry. A yowl burst from my lips as I ran towards her. I tried to grip her hand and it turned to ash.

Sir!

I turned to the body of my father. Half of him was caught under a large beam. The other half looked simply horrific. I let out a terrified scream at the sight of him. His skin melting like candle wax as a puddle of dark red pooled around his body.

Ciel!

"Ciel!" Someone shook me harshly and I gasped and grabbed them by the shoulders. I shoved him down on the couch and pressed my forearm down on his throat closing his airway. I looked at the man and flinched back hoping I hadn't caused too much damage to Sebastian.

I choked on a sob and shoved my face into my hands. I felt the man shift under me and I was suddenly wrapped in a hug. I clenched my fingers almost painfully into his shirt as I continued to cry.

"Everyone left me," I hiccup quietly clenching my eyes shut.

"It's okay, it's okay, I'm here now," I could feel his chest rumble against me. It was almost comforting.

"Promise me you won't leave, Sebastian," I whisper.

"I promise, Ciel," his grip on me tightened. I wrapped my arms around him. I could hear his heartbeat. I focused my breathing to match its rhythm and for the first time in a long time I felt safe.

I suppose some good things can happen on my birthday.
