My breathing was heavy when they dragged me out of the ice cold water. My teeth chattered together and I shivered violently. My vision was blurry and my fingers were going numb. My hearing was dull and I knew the nuns were talking to me but I couldn't understand them.
I went to curse at them. Scream at them. Do something. All that escaped my throat was a rough croaking sound. They forced my head under water again with the rest of my body. Bubble floated in front of me as I lost my breath. My vision went dark and images of bubbles danced behind my eyelids.
Ciel?
"Ciel! Wake up," I groaned and looked up at the twins. Both of them had club meets today so I had chosen to wait for them. I blinked up at the sky which I could barely see through the leaves of the tree I had fallen asleep under. My novel rested heavy on my chest and my iPod was flashing the dead battery symbol.
"Sorry, I must have fallen asleep," I murmur standing up. I slip the electronic into the pocket of my plaid slacks and hang my headphones around my neck before I mark my page in the book.
"No kidding, dummy," Alois rolled his eyes flicking me in the temple.
"How were your clubs?" I question as we begin our trek home.
"Quiz Bowl was fun, I answered some questions on that book series that you read us last summer," Lizzy smiled, "You know the one with the three orphans".
"Ah," I recalled, "A Series Of Unfortunate Events?" She nodded.
Al sighed dramatically, "I might get the part of Marchisio in the end of the year play".
"Sounds fantastic Al," I smile slightly at my little brother, "You'll have to let us know when ticket sales go up".
"After spring break- oh my god, Ciel!" He cut himself off as we approached the house. I snorted oh what a sight to see. Sebastian stood on the front stoop with his arms crossed. I knew he would try and clean up my room again while I was gone and if he alphabetized my books one more time I was gonna throw them at him.
This was beautiful though. So wonderful in fact that I burst into laughter dropping my novel to cradle my stomach. The sight of the man drenched in syrup and covered heavily in bright pink feathers was hard not to laugh at. I finally ceased my little laughing fit and retrieved my book
I grinned at him as I walked past, "I'm sure Finney would hose you down, all you have to do is ask".
I yelped dropping my book once again as he grabbed me around the waist and lifted me over his shoulder. He took my headphones and iPod and passed them to Alois who seemed significantly less in shock than Lizzy who was gawking at us. I growled and began to push on his shoulders and slam my fists down onto his back like a child. All that did was get me sticky and feathery as well. His shoulder jammed into my stomach uncomfortably as he walked.
I reared back and elbowed him in the back of the head causing him to stumble, "Put me down this instant! You Oaf! You Coccydynia! You-"
I was cut off when I was submerged in cold water. Bubbles drifted in front of my eyes. I shivered as I came up for air coughing and gagging. I grabbed the self righteous asshole by the ankle and yanked him into the duck pond with me. I hobbled out a shivering, teeth chattering, mess and was met with a warm towel.
Aunt Ann smiled down at me brilliantly. Joy in her eyes. Shiny white teeth on display between painted red lips.
