in which alec has some very irrational jealousy issues, and magnus reads to him.

Alec let out a sigh as he stepped into Magnus's loft, softly shutting the door behind him. Dropping his gear onto the floor and kicking off his boots, he groaned before treading lightly across he floor, making his way towards the bedroom.

"Magnus?" He called out quietly, not wanting to disrupt the peaceful silence that graced his and Magnus's home, just as it always did.

"In here." A voice called back, just as silent. It seemed to be coming from the study.

Alec clumsily padded his way across the floor towards the study, ignoring the pain that shot through his legs every now and then. Once he made it there, he peeped through the doorway, only to find the room empty.

"Magnus, where are you?" He said again, a bit more loudly this time.

"I'm in the living room, Alexander." Magnus's voice drifted down the hallway, amusement coloring his tone. "You just walked past me."

Blushing, Alec turned around and made his way back to the living room, where he found Magnus with his nose buried in a book, a smile on his face.

"Hey." He said softly, collapsing on the couch beside his boyfriend.

"Hello, Alexander." Magnus said back, still not looking up from his book. "Tough day?"

"You could say that." Alec responded shortly, not having enough energy to launch into the story of how Clary and Jace had - as usual - almost gotten him and Isabelle killed because they were too stupid to think. Alec, for the life of him, would never understand how they managed to get through training.

"Hmm." Magnus replied in a offhand way, nodding his head.

Alec knew Magnus loved him, that he cared about him, it was just that he got distracted at times. He seemed so absorbed in his book, it almost made Alec ridiculously envious of an inanimate object.

"That must be some book." He blurted out, mentally slapping himself when he heard how childish he sounded.

At that, Magnus finally looked at Alec before throwing his head back and letting out a laugh that sent the butterflies in Alec's stomach into a crazied frenzy.

"Getting jealous now, are we?" Magnus asked, evidently very amused. His eyes sparkled as he looked at Alec, his smile knocking the Shadowhunter's breath away.

"I....what?" Was all Alec could manage to get out, still spell bound by the expression on the warlock's face.

Magnus let out a small chuckle before reaching forward and placing his hand on Alec's cheek. Alec, in turn, couldn't stop himself from leaning into the touch, the feel of Magnus's hand working wonders.

Slowly, Magnus's hand travelled down his face as the other one reached up, both eventually coming to rest on his shoulders. Slowly, he began moving his hands; they formed circular paths on Alec's shoulder as Magnus gently massaged him, teasing out the knots. Unable to control himself, Alec let out a soft moan; Magnus's hands felt heaven.

"Wow." Magnus said.

"What?" Alec asked, his eyes shut. He bit his lip, trying to hold back another moan.

"You're exhausted." Magnus stated, the concern evident in his tone. Slowly, Alec opened his eyes to peer at the warlock, who's eyebrows were knit together with worry.

"It's nothing." Alec said dismissively, waving his hand.

"You're a terrible liar." Magnus reprimanded, his hands traveling down Alec's arms as they met his hands, fingers intertwining. Alec gave him a sheepish grin in response.

They sat there for a while, hands locked together, foreheads slowly leaning forward to press against each other, a comfortable silence settling between them.

"Should I read to you?" Magnus asked suddenly, startling Alec out his sleep filled haze.

"Huh?" Was all he managed to say, blinking his eyes open with a bit of effort as he pulled away from Magnus, their hands still together.

"I asked you, Alexander," Magnus began, letting out an amused chuckle, "if you wanted me to read to you."

"You...read to me?" Alec asked, confused. Why would Magnus want to read to him?

"Yes, Alexander, read to you." Magnus said, his eyes lighting up. Alec couldn't say no to that look.

"I...okay." He said, collapsing against the couch cushions. Smiling, Magnus picked his book up again.

"It all began with the rise of...." Magnus's voice continued to read, but Alec didn't really pay attention to the voice.

No, he paid attention to the sound.

He let Magnus's voice wash over him, calm and serene. There was something about the way he read, Magnus could make even an instruction manual doing interesting.

And the way his tongue curled around the words...it left Alec mystified. He closed his eyes, not wanting to focus on anything but his boyfriend reading. Waves of calm washed over him. He let his mind wander, no conscious thought forming in his head.

Before he knew it, his mind was consumed by the tendrils of sleep.

Initially, Alec tried to fight it, he wanted to listen to more of Magnus's reading. But he could avoid it anymore, and he was exhausted.

Somewhere along the way, he felt a pair of strong arms wrap around him, pulling him towards them. The hands felt so soft, he familiar, he didn't even bother resisting. He let himself be pulled along until he found himself lying horizontally, head in a very, very comfortable lap.

The hands which had pulled him along - Magnus's hands, he thought - carding those his hair gently. Alec sighed with satisfaction, curling his legs up. He head Magnus's faint but joyful chuckle and smiled drowsily himself, sleep still consuming the major part of his mind.

"I love you." Magnus's voice said, deep and soft and everything else in between.

All Alec could manage in response was a tired mumble, too far gone to say anything else. But he knew the answer to those three words right down to the very core of his being.

"I love you, too"
