Denial

Most of you were probably expecting that and some of you probably didn't, like me...
That's how the new year started off for me, my parents telling us about the divorce.
I was in denial that my parents had split, I was often trying to get them together, obviously, it didn't work.

I never saw my Dad but it was the feeling of him coming home, gave me comfort but I never felt it again. Theo distanced himself from Dad ever since that Christmas he came home drunk and I don't blame him for that.
Mom didn't marry again, she says it's much better for her to be alone and independent, Dad is now alcohol free. He found himself a companion in the form of a dog and they are very much happy. Mom and Dad maintain a good friendship and sometimes we even have dinners all together. That's more than what we did when they were married.

Mom and Dad were right about the divorce, it's only now that I finally realized.

However, at that moment, I failed to understand why they could not be together anymore and it consumed me...
