"Mom, I'm here. Need your help!" Theo yelled once we walked through his big house. It was a mansion and the outside had a beautiful large fountain.

The inside was even better. The theme was modern and the colors were grey and white.

A short women with dark brown hair and blue eyes came into view. "Hey, um who's this?" She said, smiling at me.

I gave a small smile back.

"This is, uh, my friend. She cut her herself." Theo said, not really knowing what to call me.

Guess we were acquaintances.

"Ooo, that must hurt." She said. "I'm Ann by the way dear, here let me help you." Theo's mom, Ann, walked over to me and lead me to the living room.

"Sit, I'll be back with the first aid kit." Ann said. I nodded and smiled at her. I sat on the couch and Theo sat on the other couch.

"So..." Theo began. There was an awkward silence between us.

"Are you new? Never seen you before." Theo said.

Before I can say anything, Ann came in the room with her kit. She sat next to me and grabbed my hand where the cut was.

"Let's go to the bathroom to wash this blood out." Ann said.

"Ok." I said, barely audible. If you couldn't't tell already, I'm very shy. When meeting new people, I get super nervous. I'm always inside and never really got out much. Not that I can anyways.

I followed Ann to the bathroom and washed my hands with water and soap.

Duh, what else will you wash it with anyway?

"Ok, good now let's get back to the living room." Ann said. I nodded and we walked back to living room, sitting on the couch.

"It's pretty deep, but it will heal in a couple of weeks." Ann said, inspecting my finger. "How did this happen?" She asked.

I told her what happened and she chuckled.

"You didn't know how a switch blade looked like?" She asked.

I shook my head. "Let's just say I don't know a lot of things. I'm always inside the house."

She nodded and continued to do her nursing stuff. I looked over at Theo to see him on his phone.

A couple minutes later, my phone rang. I read the caller ID.

Stephen.

I took in a deep breath before picking it up with my good hand.

"Hello?" I said, trying not to sound scared.

"Where are you?" He asked calmly.

"Um, I stayed after school. I'm studying for a test tomorrow." I lied. My palms starting getting sweaty and my heart rate was getting faster.

"Why couldn't you just study here?" He asked, yet again calmly. It really scared me. Why was he so calm? Was he just hiding his anger?

"I had to look for some new books." I lied.

"Well, next time call me. But since you didn't, get ready for your punishment." He said, his voice rising.

"O-ok." I stuttered. Thoughts I didn't want to think of floated my mind.

"Good, bye." He said. Before I can say "bye" he hung up.

I lay my phone down on the couch and let out a breath.

"Everything good dear?" Ann asked me. Both her and Theo were looking at me.

I nodded my head. "Yeah, Yeah. I'm fine."

"You sure?" Theo asked, his eyebrows furrowed.

"Yes, I'm great." I said.

Ann nodded and a couple minutes later, she was done working n my finger.

"All done." She said, smiling.

"Thanks Ann, I really appreciate it. I'm Emerald by the way." I said, remembering that I haven't told her my name yet.

"Emerald such a beautiful name just like the gem." Ann said.

I nodded. "And my birthstone." I said.

"Well, it was nice meeting you Emerald. Hope to see you soon." Ann said.

I nodded. "Thanks again."

Ann shook her head. "It was no problem. I like helping people." She smiled at me.

I nodded and walked out the door, but a voice stopped me.

"Let me drive you home." He said. I turned around to see Theo putting on his shoes.

"I was going to walk home. It's fine." I said.

Theo shook his head. "It's getting dark. That's not a good idea. Let me drive you home." He said, a serious look on his face meaning he was not backing down.

"Ok." I said. We got in his car and I told him my address.

We arrived at my house 15 minutes later.

"Thanks for the ride and for helping me." I said, looking at him with a genuine look on my face.

"It was no problem." He said.

I nodded and got out his car, walking up to my front door and unlocking it. Theo didn't leave until I got in and when I did, he drove off.

I started to breathe heavily and my palms started to get sweaty. I was so scared. I just wanted to go to my room and just sleep without any nightmares.

"Emerald." I heard him call out.

"Y-yes?" I said.

"Come here." He said. I followed his voice and it led me to the living room.

There he was, sitting on the couch watching a football game on the TV.

"Sit down." Stephen said, patting the space next to him. I nodded and sat next to him.

Stephen turned the TV off and turned his body to face me.

"Were you with a boy?" He asked.

"N-no!" I exclaimed.

"Tell me the truth." He said lowly, his hand gripping my thigh and squeezing it. Hard.

"I was, but he was helping me with my math questions." I lied. I got really good with lying over the last years. It kind of scares me sometimes.

A moment of silence passed by.

Stephen suddenly stood up and grabbed my by the arm.

"You fucking whore!" He yelled.

He threw my weak body to the ground.

"Your sleeping around." He claimed. "Like the little slut you are."

I shook my head. "No." I said.

"You fucking liar!" He screamed, punching me right in the face. I'll probably end up with a black eye.

He got on top of me and repeatedly started slapping my face.

"You." Slap. "Fucking." Slap. "Whore." Slap.

Tears starting coming down from my eyes.

All I felt was pain.

Not just in my body, but in my head.

Stephen was right. I'm pathetic. I was a whore.

He punched me right in the stomach. The same spot that was still in the process of healing.

He kept hitting me. All over my body. The pain I was feeling...I couldn't describe it, but all I know is that I didn't want to live this life anymore.

I just wanted to die.
