Jihoon lied there on his bed thinking about all of the things he saw that day. He was confused by how different everything seemed from what he thought it might've been, especially that girl that came up to him at the park, Yuna. No one was home but him. His parents left early for some business that they had to take care of, and of course Jihoon could care less about where they were because they were out of his way.
Getting out of bed Jihoon freshened himself up and went to his parents' room. He knew that his father always had emergency cash on the left side of his top drawer. There was a total of about $400 in the drawer, Jihoon took $50 out of it and walked out the door grabbing his key with him. The sun had become brighter than the day before, so he put on his sunglasses and his original black hat as before. He put in his headphones and started listening to Panic! At The Disco.
He found a donut shop at the corner across the street from a 7 Eleven. Opening the front door of the shop the scent of sweet, vanilla and chocolate icing filled the air. Jihoon looked around the shop taking off his sunglasses. The guy at the counter was staring at him suspiciously as if he knew something was up. Jihoon noticed.
"Hi, can I get an orange juice and one chocolate donut?" asked Jihoon looking at the guy straight in the eye as the green in his eyes darkened.
"Yeah, sure no problem." responded the guy giving him his orange juice and the donut. "Anything else?" he then asked looking like he was hoping for him to say yes.
"No, that's it." Answered Jihoon without hesitating giving him $10.
As the guy goes into the register to give Jihoon his change he once again looks at Jihoon in such suspicion making Jihoon annoyed by the sight of it. "What are you looking at might I ask? Have you never seen a teenage boy just trying to get himself some breakfast?" He grabs the change the guy's hand and walks out of the shop slamming the door behind him as the rest of the people stare. The guy just stands there in shock.
From all the chaos that just happened Jihoon decides to just go into the nearby woods that he knows inside and out. In the distance he hears a lake running through the middle of the forest. He follows the rushing sound of swimming fish and the ruffles of the water hitting against the rounded rocks. He sits down on a bolder and drinks his orange juice with his freshly made donut. It was his first time actually having a donut. The time he's seen one in person and not on a TV screen.
Thoughts kept rushing through his head as always making him stressed and frustrated by how and what he is. A creature......a monster. He lays there on his back listening to the leaves of the tree branches touch one another as the harsh wind passes through. His eyes become droopy as he begins to fall asleep on the shining grass flattening down by his body.
Ring! Ring! Ring! He jumps up by the sound of his phone covering his eyes from the bright sun as he answers it.
"Hello?"
"Where are you?" asked his mom in an anxious tone "I've been calling for half an hour already.
"Mom what is it?" Jihoon asked standing up from the ground.
"Come home right where ever you are." she hangs up.
Jihoon runs quickly home throwing away his bag that he got from the donut shop. As he opens the door walking inside the house his parents stand there waiting for him in the kitchen with their arms crossed looking furious. Jihoon looks back at them in confusion.
"Why do you guys look like that? What's the problem?" he asked taking off his hat.
"Where have you been young man!?" yelled his mother.
"I was in the woods obviously where else would I be?"
"Don't think we're stupid we could smell you from here." said his father shaking his head.
Jihoon sighs, "Alright I was out, but it's not like I can't take care of myself you guys. It's not that big of a deal."
"Yeah you're right it's not that big of a deal, but it's the fact that you didn't tell us where you were going first." said his mother furiously.
"And? Since when do you guys care? I've been trapped in this hell hole my whole life anyways so I should have the right to go wherever I want without having to tell you guys about it!" shouted Jihoon slamming his hands against the kitchen table. "And you know what's so funny?" he chuckled, "Is that I have to tell you where I'm going, but you guys don't tell me shit about what you do. Never! I'm stuck here all alone in this place while you guys who knows what." he shakes his head as tears fall down his face.
"There is one thing you should know son." his father said trying to keep calm.
"What is it now?"
"Since you want to go out into the world so badly your mother and I had registered you into the public high school."
Jihoon looks at them questionably, "Wait what? All I want to do is get out of the house not have social interaction with people who are most likely not on my educational level. I'm not going." he shakes his head.
"It's already done for so you have no choice." explained his mother.
"But that's not fair though. Do you how annoying people my age can get especially of they're all in one building? I'm not going."
"Yes you are." repeated his mother.
"No I'm not and you can't make me."
"Oh really? Watch me young man." growled his mother as her brown eyes darkened into black.
"Both of you just stop!" yelled his father banging his hand on the table. "Jihoon you will go to school starting Monday of next week whether you like it or not and that's final."
Jihoon stomps up to his room slamming his door shut making the house shake a little. He yells in anger throwing his stuff everywhere, breaking glass, shattering picture frames, and punching a whole in the middle of his wall. His knuckles started to bleed out dripping down on the floor. A piece of glass scratched him on the side of his lip and chin. He throws himself onto his bed screaming into his pillow. It was Saturday which meant he only had one more day until he'll start going to a normal school. It didn't make any sense of why his parents decided to do this now, and at such short notice too. Were they doing it for him, or for themselves?
