Sing

If a poet falls in a forest, without a pen in their hand,
Would they even make a sound, if there's no one around?
If there's nobody to hear, would anyone shed a tear, or even understand?

If a singer fell without a song on their lips,
Would anyone care?
Because the world is only interested in the hit records they release – only care if you have enough money to cover your lease,
This is an empty world like an empty stage,
But you gotta fill it with love no matter your age,

Have you ever felt lost amidst a crowd?
In your mind there's silence, despite it being loud?
You hear the people talking – see them gawking as you sit alone,
Because you feel lonely even around so many people,
This loneliness should be illegal, so you keep looking at your phone – your eye on the time – just waiting and wanting to go home,

You feel safe in your corner – away from the chances of pain since you don't wanna,
Be hurt again – don't want to travel that painful path – trying to forget your lonely past,
But don't roll over and lay dead,
The show's not over so listen to the words inside that were never said,

There's so many people, sitting where you are,
Singing a song in their head, maybe playing a guitar,
Trying to lose themselves in an ocean of music,
Stringing words and chords together – trying not to abuse it,
Because the chorus is a magical thing – they know the hope that it can bring,

That's why when you're down just sing,
Sing about your worries, sing about your pain,
Don't think too much about it,
Just let the words flow through your brain,
Walk outside in the breeze maybe – feel the bark of a tree and see,
There's beauty in the simplicity of things,
Feel the life around you – feel the hope surround you,
You're not alone in this world so just sing,

Life is a blank canvas – you have the tools to make what you want and then to have it,
Y

ou've got what you need so plant a seed of security in your insecurity and grow something full of purity – only need to open your eyes and you'll see,
Everyone's got their own song to do – it may be difficult but it's up to you,

Gather the shards of your fears and wipe away your tears,
Stand up and be strong – a verse from the heart can do no wrong,
So the next time you feel lonely, let your soul write a song that could win the Tony's,

That's why when you're down just sing,
Sing about your worries – sing about your pain,
Don't think too much about it,
Just let the words flow through your brain.
