Thor and I looked at the Commodore's cockpit.
"All right, we can figure this out. It's just another spaceship." Thor seemed to be trying to convince himself more than me.
"What about this?" I asked, pushing a button.
The massive garage doors opened, setting off blaring alarms to alert the palace of our unauthorized departure. Thor and I looked at each other in panic.
"Do something!" I shouted.
Thor screamed, "You know it's harder for me to get stuff done when you yell at me!" He pushed more buttons in a panic. We lifted off from the garage. Thor pushed forward on the throttle. The ship zoomed ahead, knocking me back into my seat.
"There's two of them behind us!" I shouted at him. I blinked as they were both blown out of the sky. "Nevermind!" I called again. "Looks like Valkyrie and Bruce are here."
Our ships zipped through the city in tandem. On the horizon, the Grandmaster and his Riot Control team rained down hell on the revolting prisoners.
"Open the doors." Valkyrie said over the radio. Thor and I looked at each other once more, then at the console. He shrugged and flipped a switch.
I watched as Valkyrie's ship dropped altitude. Her whole ship spun upside down, yet her cockpit was still right-side up. I had no time to wonder as her ship accelerated under ours and Bruce came flying at us.
Bruce screamed as he landed roughly. He casually lifted his arm up and gave us a thumbs up. He stumbled as we were being fired upon by another pursuit vehicle. Bruce joined us in front. "Shouldn't we be shooting back or something?"
"Yes, we should." Thor added into the radio, "Where are the guns on this ship?"
"There aren't any. It's a leisure vessel." Valkyrie replied.
"WHAT?!" We cried out.
"Grandmaster uses it for his good times, orgies and stuff."
We looked around. The ceiling had mirrors on it and the floor was covered in a Sakaarian persian rug.
"Did she just say the Grandmaster uses it for orgies?" Bruce asked.
"Yeah. Don't touch anything." Thor answered. I shrunk into myself as more shots were fired at us.
I struggled to watch where Valkyrie was, briefly catching sight of her ship turning into a missile. We watched as it slammed into the Grandmaster's projection. He stumbled, struggling to maintain his balance. It exploded while he was knocked off.
"No!" Thor cried out.
A spec came out of the explosion. I jumped as Valkyrie hit the ship's windshield and grabbed hold, residual smoke wafting off of her.
"Phew. That was close wasn't it?" I sighed with relief and Bruce nodded warily.
Thor piloted the ship out of the city into the Wastelands as six Sakaarian fighter ships raced after us in formation.
"That's not good." I groaned. One of the pursuing ships flew even closer.
"Get inside!" Thor ordered Valkyrie.
"In a minute!" She pulled herself and then ran down the roof of the ship.
We followed the thumping of her footsteps. She leapt off and landed hard on the lead Sakaarian ship! She began tearing into the enemy ship with her bare hands. We exchanged a look.
"I should probably go and help." Thor said.
"You? But I'm the better flyer!" I argued.
"Luft, stay here with Banner, keep him calm. Here, take the wheel." He said to him.
"No. I don't know how to fly one of these." Bruce said, not at all calm.
"You're a scientist. Use one of your PhDs." Thor smiled.
"None of them are for flying alien spaceships!" Bruce cried as Thor leapt out. "Aren't you gonna help? You know how to fly this don't you?"
"Afraid not." I crossed my arms in annoyance at being left out. I also wanted to see Bruce's PhDs in action.
He frantically steered the ship, doing his best to dodge all the incoming fire. We peeled away but were followed by a chase-ship.
"Okay, come on. There's gotta be a gun on this thing. That looks like a gun."
"Valkyrie said earlier there wasn't. I don't think- that's a gun." I trailed off as Bruce pushed a button with a little explosion icon.
The ship's lighting changed, like a disco effect. Weird dance music blasted followed by the Grandmaster's voice saying 'It's my birthday'. Bruce and I looked at each other in confusion. The sound of fireworks broke my attention.
Massive plumes of powder paint shot out of our ship followed by a huge colorful fireworks display. Then a rainforest's worth of confetti was dumped from the hull. The chase-ship soon hit a hard crash landing in the ocean.
"Yeah!" Bruce exclaimed.
"Who's birthday is it now?!" I fist pumped the air. I sat back with relief. "Good thing that wasn't a self destruct button." I huffed.
Bruce hovered over Thor and Valkyrie. They leapt up towards the open doors as the ship they had just been on crashed and exploded behind them. They joined us in the cockpit.
"Guys, we're coming up on the Devil's Anus!" Valkyrie called. "Here we go!"
Our ship was swallowed up by the towering nightmare that is the Devil's Anus wormhole. The ship's onboard computer shorted out. Darkness filled the cabin. All around us the hull creaked under the strain. My wings weren't just twitching, they were full on shaking.
We headed towards the end of the wormhole, debris flying everywhere. The pressure caused us all pain, along with the fear of the ship being torn apart. I saw Bruce pass out first from my narrowed eyes. Eventually it got too much to bare for me. I blacked out.
I woke up to see the realm of Asgard, the flat city in the middle of an island floating in space.
"I never thought I'd be back here." Valkyrie choked.
"Me too. Though I hoped." I murmured.
The ship descended into the clouds, revealing Asgard in ruins. A devastated ghost city. Fires, wrecked buildings, dead soldiers. It looked like all hope was lost.
"I thought it'd be nicer. I mean, not that it's not nice. It's just, it's on fire." Bruce rambled.
"Here, up here in the mountains." Valkyrie brought up a projected map on the console that showed the mountain where a stronghold was located. There was a red dot in the mountain, indicating where the Asgardian citizens were. "Heat signatures. People clustered together. Hela's coming for them."
"Okay, drop me off at the palace and I'll draw her away." Thor ordered.
"And get yourself killed?" She questioned.
"The people trapped down there are all that matters. While I'm dealing with Hela, I need you three to help get everyone off Asgard."
"How the hell are we supposed to do that?" Bruce demanded.
"I have a man on the ground." Thor beamed.
I watched as Valkyrie helped Thor load a massive Asgardian blaster into the side of the Commodore.
"Now the ship has guns." Thor grinned.
"I'll take it from here." She dismissed him.
"I found this in the armory." Thor produced a bundle of fabric with gold and white plating. She looked touched. They shared a look as we lifted off into the air.
"'Your majesty.' Don't die. You know what I mean." She called out at the last second.
We flew off, leaving Thor on the balcony. She turned to see me with my eyebrows raised.
"Oh piss off." She laughed.
