La Llorona by Natalia Lafourcade ft. Los Macorinos
When Sasuke awoke, pain welcomed him slowly into consciousness and then all at once.
He grunted.
"Bast!" He barely heard the voice from the ringing in his head.
He tried to open his eyes but his head wouldn't let him.
He then heard the fluttering of a robe, the air felt tenser, Sasuke sat promptly up.
His body weakened at the movement.
Kay's hands went to his arm as she helped him sit up. Sasuke kept looking up at the robe.
Tobi stared down.
"I have treated your wounds."
Sasuke was silent.
"You won." He announced. "Although you suffered quite the injuries yourself."
Kay tried to ignore how it felt to see the helpless expression on Sasuke's face.
"We've met once before, though we were enemies then you can forget everything about Deidara now."
Kay hid her face behind Sasuke's shoulder.
"I brought you here to talk to you about something..." Sasuke stared down at Kay's hands holding him. "You don't look too interested so how do I phrase it so you'll hear me out? Its about Uchiha Itachi."
Sasuke slowly moved his eyes towards him.
"That's right, you think you know everything about your brother when you don't know anything."
Kay rubbed circles onto Sasuke's back, not caring about what the masked man had to say.
"First, let me tell you who I am." Tobi reached for his mask and started to remove it, exposing the Sharingan. "Like you I am remnant of the Uchiha Clan."
Sasuke's eye turned red then, showing a shape in his pupils that Tobi recognized instantly.
The same black fire that Itachi had used on Sasuke now burned Tobi, he fell back into the shadows in an attempt to extinguish it.
Sasuke pressed his hand to his eye as it stung. He began breathing heavy.
"Sasuke." Kay gasped and tried to get him to breathe more even.
"Wh-what was that just now?"
Kay didn't know what to say..
"It was the Amaterasu Itachi implanted in you." The masked man responded.
Kay tensed in response to Sasuke's shock. Her palms started sweating again.
"Typical Itachi, he amazes me even in death. He took measures even for this occasion."
Sasuke had had enough, "what the hell are you talking about?"
"The Amaterasu was implanted in order to kill me, or to put it bluntly, in order to keep me away from you. It'd activate somewhat like a trigger upon seeing my Sharingan. Luckily, even Itachi didn't know everything about me."
Sasuke breathed like if he was having a panic attack and Kay repositioned herself behind him. She wrapped her arms around him and pressed her forehead against his back.
"Sasuke, please breathe."
Tobi, revealing to be Uchiha Madara, continued talking, Kay didn't release Sasuke from her hug as he listened, she didn't even budge when Sasuke would lash out.
"Think back to that kind older brother of yours." Madara got closer to Sasuke as he stared at his shaking hands.
"Sasuke, Sasuke." Kay reached from behind and grabbed his hands. "Enough! Get away from him!" She called at Madara.
Sasuke started swaying then finally fell back onto Kay.
Madara looked up at her.
"Get out."
Kay raised her head to meet his sight. "Fuck off."
They stared at each other, Madara was genuinely impressed at how unafraid she was of his Sharingan after knowing what he could do with it.
Kay removed herself and laid Sasuke down.
"Just let him rest, this is all too much for him." She whispered, laying a hand on his forehead.
"It'd be too much for anyone, really." She sighed.
Madara stared as she dampened his forehead and neck. The sight was strange to him.
"Don't bother, I'm going to tie him up."
Kay turned around. "No."
Madara didn't listen. "Move." He shoved her.
"I said no!" Kay went to hit him but he caught her by the wrist.
They stared each other down again.
"Okay." Kay whispered. "But I stay."
Madara didn't respond but tied him up either way.
When Sasuke was awake again, he was sat up against the wall. Kay rested against the wall too, facing him instead of Madara. Her head rested against the wall.
Madara started again and this time Kay prayed silently as she stared at Sasuke's pained face.
She prayed for Sasuke's health.
She prayed for Sasuke's parents.
And she prayed for Sasuke's brother.
Sasuke couldn't hear her but he knew she was praying because of the way she played with her bracelet.
"Bastet, shine your moonlight on us." She whispered as Madara finished.
"Amen." Sasuke said back.
Madara left the room.
"Go back to sleep." Kay commanded.
He did as told.
When Sasuke awoke once again, he felt the stare before he even knew he was awake.
"You have no idea how worried you've made me this couple of days, do you?" Kay whispered.
He hummed.
Kay chuckled, an unhumorous and hurtful sound.
The tone made Sasuke snap his eyes open.
He turned to her, she sat with her arms hugging her legs. Her eyes were red and puffy, her nose pink.
"Why are you crying?" He asked, confused.
Kay thought of talking back, misinterpreting his tone as a scoff, but she couldn't bring herself to be mean. "I already told you, I was worried about you."
He stared, waiting for her to continue.
"I've been crying for like three days straight." She chuckled with the same sentiment, sounding more embarrassed now. "When Madara brought you in I ran after you -the Hidden Leaf is shit, by the way- the rest followed close behind. I went insane, I screamed your name over and over. When I caught up to Madara," her hands had been fiddling with his sleeve but she now looked back up to him and smiled, "I threw myself over you and begged him to help me heal you."
Sasuke looked away, suddenly uncomfortable at how emotional Kay had gotten.
She breathed in, placing her hand over his and composing herself.
"So I prayed to Bastet, and here you are."
Sasuke hummed again.
The room was silent for a moment, Kay stared at Sasuke's hand under hers. He didn't move away when she touched him.
It really had been complete hysteria, Suigetsu had tried to pull her away and get her to get ahold of herself. Kay had pushed everyone out of her way, she didn't like the way her head had been ringing and how hard her chest pounded. It felt like true insanity.
She had not left his side the entire time, she hadn't eaten or seen any of the rest of Hebi.
She couldn't really even be sure they were still out there on the other side of the door.
But it hadn't mattered to Kay because if Sasuke would've passed away while Kay wasn't there, she wouldn't have forgiven herself.
"I'm sorry I worried you." He said finally.
She nodded. "Apology accepted."
"You look awful." He commented as she untuck the hair that had stuck to her moist cheek and dried with her tears.
She gave a short laugh, more vivid, less sad. "You should give yourself a good look in the mirror, Suki."
He hummed in response, unable to show even a smirk now.
"Can I ask you something?"
He didn't look at her, "is it about what Madara said?"
"Uh-huh." She nodded.
"I don't know what I'm going to do. I haven't had much time to think about it." He cleared his throat, his breath had hitched.
Kay stared at him. "I'm sorry about your brother, Sasuke. I'm sorry things had to get to that point."
His hand stiffened under hers and reminded her they were still touching. She slipped her fingers in the gaps of his, he turned to their linked hands.
"Its okay to be angry at him- at anyone and everyone, really." She whispered. "Anger is one of the many steps of grief."
"I just wish he wouldn't have lied to me."
She smiled. "You were a child, it not something you would've understood."
"Did you know?" Sasuke frowned.
"Not until you did. I've just been awake, letting it sink in." Kay sighed.
"Have you not slept at all?"
She shook her head. "You know, you're kind of cute when you're asleep- more handsome."
Sasuke hummed.
Kay laid next to him then, pressing herself to his side.
"Imma sleep just for a little while, you don't know how exhausting the last few days have been. I got the most faint-worthy relief when I heard you wake up. I have never felt anything like it."
Sasuke's hand twitched under hers as her nose, cold from crying, touched his bare side when she turned up to look at him.
"Sasuke," Kay whispered, Sasuke hummed, "whatever you decide to do, I'll stand by you."
She leaned over and kissed his cheek. "And..." she hesitated, "if you need to cry it out that's okay, if it makes it easier for you, I'll forget all about it."
Sasuke turned to his side to do just that and she crawled to hug his back, her hand still hold his.
He squeezed it once the tears started spilling.
