Kay let out a big laugh that echoed in the woods, Sasuke's followed after then the laughs joined together.
They sat in front of a fire, Sasuke's head was in her lap.
He stuffed a rice ball in his mouth, chewing with a smile as he saw Kay wipe the laughter tears off her eyes.
She took in a large breath, "I swear to Bast, he's such an idiot."
Sasuke shook his head, "I can only imagine what went on when I wasn't around."
Kay chuckled down at him, his hand offered her rice, she took it with a smile.
"Did your brother ever do stuff like that?" She asked.
Sasuke hummed pensively. "I don't think so, I think he was much more calm."
She nodded, "you know, sometimes I miss him."
Sasuke shot her a confused glance.
"Like I think I forget sometimes, that he's gone. And I think to myself that he's simply away- or we are- and whenever we cross each other's path I'll get to see you two being brothers."
"Why?"
"Why what?" She asked.
"Why do you want to see that?"
"Well, there's a lot of reasons but mainly I just want to see your happy. I can see you happy with me now, I can see you smile and its beautiful and all but I want to know the type of happy your brother made you."
Sasuke was quiet for a second as Kay stretched to reach for some water.
"My happy with Itachi was similar to my happy with you." He started, "one of the reasons why I found you so appealing from the beginning."
Kay nodded, urging him on.
"It was warm and it veiled over me a type of protection." He started.
Kay smiled. "I'm your protector?"
Sasuke rolled his eyes at her. "Quite frankly, Kay, I don't think I'd be alive if it wasn't for you. From day one. I remember Orochimaru's errands, you'd execute them without any trouble at all."
Kay felt the blood raise to her cheeks.
"I remember Deidara." He said to her, "I could've died right then and there but you kept on keeping up. You are and have always been such an unstoppable force, you fight and fight and just keep on coming."
Kay didn't like to remember that day, she had not felt like an unstoppable force, she had felt helpless.
"You put your foot down and faced him. You've been always greater than me, much like my brother was greater than I."
Kay ran her finger along his cheekbones.
"You're exaggerating." She shook her head. "I'm not great."
Sasuke sighed, "but you are, Kay. You've always have been."
She looked at the cackling fire, not saying anything. Everything she did was in the name of two things, either Bastet or Sasuke. It didn't seem like greatness to her but she could feel how he could think of her that way.
He didn't understand, she didn't think he could ever understand how important he was.
"You know, we're married, if you want to have sex, you just have to ask. There's no need to flatter me."
He laughed, her hand touching his chest as the vibration of his laugh went through her fingertips.
"Not tonight." Sasuke whispered, his hand going to where hers was on his chest. "Tonight let's just be here."
Kay hummed to him, the same lullaby that always ended stopping short, her memory of that dream during Eternal Tsukiyomi was interrupted too fast.
Sasuke closed his eyes again, the melody brought him peace, way more soothing than any other song he'd heard, even if Kay's voice wasn't the most gifted.
She simply sounded happy, like the song gave her the feeling it gave him to hear her sing. It was warm and they both held on to each other's protective embrace.
It made Sasuke realize for a second, that they were fine. He hadn't realized that he no longer felt the need to see what was out there because she was with him. She'd seen it all and she was happy, with him. He was happy too, she'd seen it too.
They were both detoxified.
His eyes fluttered open, "lets go home."
Kay stopped her humming. "What?"
Sasuke smiled. "Lets go back home- back to Konoha."
She stared down at him, confusion masked her face.
"For how long?" She asked then.
"For as long as we want to." He answered.
She couldn't sit there and pretend she didn't miss Kakashi and the now Seventh Hokage Uzumaki Naruto just as much as she missed Orochimaru and Suigetsu.
She gave out a sigh, "lets go home."
Sasuke moved, trying to get up but she held him down.
"Not tonight, tomorrow morning. Lets just be tonight, right?"
He smiled up at her. "Lets just be."
She leaned down to give him a kiss on the lips and then proceeded humming.
She fell asleep before he did, her back pressed against a tree.
He moved her so she'd lay on the blanket he'd spread on the floor for her and laid next to her, falling into slumber himself too.
The following morning they sent out a letter before they went to their journey back.
The anticipation made Sasuke extra playful, a side of him that had blossomed from their time alone together.
They would race each other and laugh when they almost fell going from one branch to the other.
"You're growing weak on me, Suki." She would call and let out a laugh as the air on her face.
Until finally, it descended into a sigh.
Her eyes, from a distance, spotted the Hokage Mountain.
The gate around the village not tall enough to hide the big mountain where she recognized the men that fought next to her in the war, and where the new carving stood out next to Kakashi's.
Uzumaki Naruto was carved into stone, like he always deserved to be memorized like.
"Here we are." She told him as he went to stand next to her.
"Here we are." He repeated, pressing his lips to her temple before he jumped from the tree, Kay followed.
They walked up in regular pace to meet the shinobi at the gate without alarm.
Naruto met them there too, Hokage hat on.
"Welcome home." Naruto smiled at them.
