Only Angel by Harry Styles
Karin's letter came in late at night, sent to Kay with a strange bird she wasn't sure she'd ever seen before.
It stared at Kay for a minute, as if it was trying to figure out if she was the one it was looking for.
The words written in the letter were scribbled on with force.
The ink was translated to the other side of the paper.
It was a very short letter, something she didn't usually appreciate but it was enough for Kay.
She knew what it meant.
The letter read, "I want revenge."
Words much too familiar to Kay, it wasn't the first time she would've helped someone close to her achieve it, so she pocketed the letter and packed up.
Before she could leave, unfortunately, she had to tell Kakashi, who slept in his apartment at the moment.
She knocked either way.
Kay knew Kakashi was a heavy sleeper, he had always been and once he fell asleep in his office there was no way to wake him back up.
Kakashi answered the door on the third knock, he must've been awake.
"Good morning, Kay." He said in his bored voice.
"Hi, I need to go visit Orochimaru." She said to him.
"What for?" He frowned.
"My friend needs my help." She simply said.
Kakashi sighed, he didn't like to have to do all the work by himself but he could tell she was anxious to go, she'd always tap her left leg. Something told him it had something to do with the metal kneecap that was inserted when her leg took all that damage during the war.
Kakashi would just have to manage and ask her how it went whenever she came back.
"Go ahead, be careful."
"Of course."
And with full permission she went off.
The journey made her excited to see them again, the anticipation of seeing her old home brought on a good mood despite the time.
She arrived that same day after daylight broke. She had forgotten how much darker the sky was compared to Konoha.
The Sound Village's sky was almost gray, not because of clouds, though.
She walked right into the hideout, her hand holding the hinge of the second door she went in because she knew that door always got stuck.
She skipped right in, the place looked the same, the corridors were the same.
The only difference was that, when she came to see the cells, they were empty.
She saw inside the cells, the stains on the floor were still there. They were a reminder of what had happened inside.
"Kill?"
She looked up to see Suigetsu, "hi!"
He walked up to her and embraced her in a hug. "Look at you! How are you?"
Kay was grinning, "I'm fine."
When he put her back down he looked down at her, Kay noticed he had grown taller. "Why are you here?"
Suigetsu laughed, "I could ask you the same question, Kill."
Kay shook her head, "Suigetsu, you-" Kay's voice went down to a whisper, her palms moistening, "you hate Orochimaru. Why would you be here?"
Kay ran the possibilities in her head and she didn't like that she thought it but the first thing that came to her mind was that Orochimaru had not changed the way he had said he did. Kay thought Orochimaru had Suigetsu here by force.
"Relax, Kill." Suigetsu said, waving his hand. "I realized I had nowhere to go. Orochimaru offered me a job."
Kay frowned, "what do you mean you have nowhere to go? Kirigakure is your home. Bast, you could've come with Sasuke and I to Konoha!"
Suigetsu shook his head, "that's you, Kill, not me. Its just not who I am, I am not willing nor ready to enter into society like that."
Kay sighed, "alright, I actually came here to kidnap Karin for a couple of days."
Suigetsu's face changed when she said that, first he became completely annoyed then exceptionally happy.
"You've come to take her off my neck, huh?"
Kay laughed as they walked down the corridor.
"Nothing's changed much, has it?" She asked as they near a door.
Suigetsu took her arm, "it has, actually. The old man seems more grouchy. He misses you."
Kay looked at the crack underneath a door. "I do too."
When Suigetsu opened the door, she saw instead of an operating table, a nice kitchen.
Kay smiled as she walked in, noticing the back of an orange-haired boy.
"Juugo, honey!" Kay called at him.
He turned around, an apron attached to his waist.
"Welcome back, Killmonger."
"What is this?" Kay asked as she looked around the kitchen.
"Orochimaru thought I needed a hobby that would calm me." Juugo said.
Kay turned to Suigetsu.
"Its kind of working, he rarely lashes out." Suigetsu nodded.
She sat down.
"Kay-chan." Orochimaru said in surprise as he walked in.
"Gramps." She smiled at him as she bowed at him.
His face looked so much more peaceful, Kay saw, it made him look more juvenile, not just young.
"You've come to take Karin off our hands, haven't you?" He asked, a serious edge to his tone.
Orochimaru had known Karin was seeking revenge.
"Yes, just for a little. She'll be back, I promise."
Orochimaru nodded, "Suigetsu, could you bring her in?"
Suigetsu grumbled something about it not being his job but went to grab her for him anyway.
They were silent for a second, Kay knew Orochimaru was going to give off a warning. She could feel the tense of a scolding the air. It really did feel like if nothing had changed, Orochimaru was still and it seemed like he always would be her father figure.
Juugo seemed to feel it too so he went back to moulding the dough he had in his hands, pretending he couldn't hear Orochimaru when he spoke.
"I thought you would never come." He said to her.
Kay frowned up at him, "what do you mean?"
Orochimaru shook his head, "You're so busy now, being the Hokage's right hand. I was disappointed to not hear from you until now."
Guilt settled into Kay, she melted into her chair. "I'm sorry, Gramps. A lot has been going on."
"No, I understand. I heard Sasuke left the village again, did he not?"
Kay sighed, "yes."
Orochimaru smiled at her. "I knew something was going to happen between you two the moment you laid your eyes on him. You were so fascinated to meet Itachi's little brother."
Kay smiled back at him.
"Do you feel lonely, in Konoha?" Orochimaru asked, true worry lacing his voice. "Do they treat you right?"
Kay nodded. "Sometimes I feel lonely, yes but I manage, you know. I find myself entertaining myself a lot. They treat me fine."
Orochimaru nodded, pensive. "If you ever need somewhere to not be lonely at- or to be lonely with other lonely people- you can come here."
Kay's tear ducts reacted to his words but before they could act, Karin busted to the door, yelling at Suigetsu.
Kay turned to them.
"You're so annoying!" Karin called.
Suigetsu grinned, "and you're a massive bitch!"
Kay smiled at them, they were like an elderly couple, rambling to each other.
Kay felt like she'd woken up from a dream.
"You two should go on a date." She blurted out.
Karin gasped, her hand reaching to fix her glasses.
"Kay!" Karin called, angry.
"Alright, alright." Kay laughed.
"Did you receive my letter already?" Karin asked.
Kay nodded.
"Are you really going to help me, Kay?"
Kay nodded again.
"Oh thank you, Kay! When will we leave?"
Kay's attitude shifted when she remembered the reason why she was going to do what she was going to do.
"We'll leave tomorrow before sunrise. Pack up." Kay said, looking down at her hands.
Orochimaru put his hand over Kay's head, smoothing her hair.
"Stay safe." He said lowly to them.
