Chapter 9: "Like....a date?"
Wednesday After School – 3:20
I unlocked the door to home and walked into the kitchen looking for cold water. I came across flowers on the counter top. I looked in the bouquet and pulled out a card.
Annie, be careful, please. I’m glad Mike took care of you. Don’t stress yourself too much. You might think I’m gone but I’m never too far away.

It’s sign wasn’t recognisable or readable.
Who was it? No one called me Annie except for dad. And him.
‘Was it really him? He still cared?’ I thought.

One day before Mid-Term examinations
“Mike, I’m scared. I don’t want to fail again. I really, really don’t.”
I was shifting in my seat as I shook Mike’s arm violently.
“Hey, it’s not helping if you keep abusing me,” He smirked teasingly and I froze for a second then scoffed, pushing his arm away.
“Whatever.” I muttered.
“Hey, come on. Finish this one, I’ll help you.” He pointed at the incomplete math problem.
I reached over to get grip on my pencil. While thinking I tapped the pencil against my head.

Day of Mid-Term examinations
I was up really early that day, to do a little last minute revision. After freshening up, I knocked on my mom’s room door.
Without waiting for her to answer, I walked in.
“Ana?” She groaned groggily. “What are you doing up so early?”
“Hey, I’m going early today to study some more before mids, okay? Mike’s picking me up.” I whisper from the door.
“Oh, okay, Ana. Be careful. Good luck, baby, I love you.”
I heard a honk from outside. I knew it was Mike.
“Bye mom.” I whispered before slipping out of her room.

“Alright, we don’t wanna be late do we? Leggo.”
“Hey,” Mike stopped me at the door, “Go kick ass.” He smirked. And I couldn’t help it. I laughed and gave him a hug.
“You too, Mike.”
