Chapter 3 : "You told me having friends was fun."

* Friday

I needed to talk to Chris. I needed to tell him the truth.

I spotted him by his locker but when I was about to approach him, a girl stopped me in my tracks.

“Don’t even think about trying, honey. It’s not going to work.” She told me, looking somewhat sympathetic. I recognized her. Angel. I mean, Angelica.

“What’s not going to work?” What did she mean? Did she know? Had everybody already found out?

“Don’t play dumb, newbie. He’s not gonna take you back.” She shook her head, pouting. She was so obnoxious I wanted to cut her.

He didn’t even sit with me during lunch. I was all alone. I’ve never cared about being alone before but since I met him, I didn’t want to be alone. I wanted to be with him and his friends. I really messed up.

I slid onto the stool next to Mike. He looked up from his notebook and smiled at me, sheepishly. Like he had been caught doing something embarrassing.

“Hey, Analiese. I saw you alone in the cafeteria just now. I wanted to go over, I really did. But um, Chris wasn’t quite fond of the idea so I decided, better not. I’m really sorry. Is everything all right?” He looked at me, eyebrows furrowed, forehead creased. He was so sweet about the situation.

I sighed.

“I need your help – “
