"Thank you!" I called out to the taxi as I waved it off. I had been dropped off in front of my new apartment, ready to start the new chapter of my practically lifeless life. As I admired the buildings outside view, I looked to my wrist watch and noticed that the Landlord was going to drop the keys for my apartment off at around nine p.m.
It was only six p.m. when I arrived.
I let out a deep and defeated sigh as I leant against one of the buzzing light posts as the sudden night life of Seoul was born. I looked around to see restaurants flicking on their lights, opening up their doors and holding out their signs. Children ran around the streets happily playing with one another as their parents watched from their porch.
'That's all well and good,' I thought to myself, 'but that is still boring.'
I sighed as I tapped my arm impatiently. I wasn't just about to stand around here for the remaining three hours I needed to wait. I decided to go and observe the places around my street to get a feel for my neighbourhood. It was plain and simple, especially for a city street.
I looked to one building in particular which looked old and abandoned on he outside. But a loud thudding of music coming from within the walls as it radiated through to the outside world. I noticed some people would walk up to the door, speak for a moment and suddenly they were let inside.
My first instinct was a creepy cult, but then when I saw the interior of the building I knew it was much more then that. It was definitely something worth wasting three hours on anyways.
I noticed a group of people walking towards the door and I quickly skipped across the road and tagged along with their group in the hope that they would just let me slide in with them undetected.
Surprisingly for me it worked, and I followed them up the stairs as I started to marvel at the
un-imagineable site that was presented to me.The walls were painted black, but against their surface was stunning patterns of glowing paint which were decorated in tribal patterns. In the centre of the room there were groups of people who were getting face painted with the glowing pain, each had a pattern in a different place. In the ceiling sat a spinning motor of disco lights which illuminated what couldn't already be seen by the wall patterns.
In the corner of the room there was a bar which had one lone bartender within it, and a few people sitting on the stools while sipping their drinks. I made my way over to there, dodging and ducking through people before I reached the safety of the bar stool.
I sat myself down and let out a relieved sigh before looking up to the bartender and ordering my drink, within moments I had the icy glass in my hand while taking anxious sips as I watched people shift around me with their gazed tightly narrowed. Suddenly there was another person besides me. I looked from the corner of my eye and noticed that he had a unbelievable amount of tribal patterns on his skin.
It was a shame that I couldn't see his face. I was only able to see his eyes thanks to the amount of glow that was produced from his skin.
"You don't look like you're from here." He comments, the glowing paint of the tribal patterns radiated from his skin and rested on the surface of my own.
"No, I walked in here on accident. Hey how do I get paint like that? So I can fit in a little bit..?" I asked him nervously as I grew anxious of all the glances and he threw his head back while chuckling.
"Oh honey," His eye's rested on mine with a sense of mischief, "here you need to dance to earn your colour!" He beamed, and that's when I noticed that everyone had their eyes glued to me in anticipation.
Immediately, I sunk into my jacket and shook my head while feeling much more nervous then I had before. I can't be put on the place like this, it's too much pressure knowing that everyone has their eyes on me.
"I.." I softly spoke but was cut off when I felt the strangers hand grab onto my own. I looked up to him and saw him giving me a confident smile while pulling me with him toward the crowd of people who were itching to see what the new person had to deliver for them.
'Rats'. I thought to myself, 'I suppose there is no turning back now.'
