That is perfect," he said almost at once. "This is perfect."
I had to admit that was not the response I had been expecting nor the response I had been looking for.
"I mean, you will be gone for ages so it's not perfect," he said quickly. "But at the same time it is."
"Why is it perfect?" I asked quickly.
"We're going out there in two weeks for a few days," he said with an excited look on his face. He stepped into his house and motioned for me to follow. "We can meet up." He took my bag off me and hung it up in a cupboard by the door. "It will be brilliant."
I agreed with him quickly before I heard footsteps coming towards us. I took a deep breath as Brooklyn shot a smile at me.
"You must be Ella," his father said to me. I couldn't believe it. "It is very nice to meet you." I shook his hand before I got introduced to his mother.
"It is very nice to meet you Mr and Mrs Beckham," I said with a smile on my face. "You have a lovely house."
"Thank you so much," his mother said to me. Victoria Beckham was talking to me, it was as if I was dreaming. "But please, call us Victoria and David."
"Dinner will be ready soon," David said. "Until then, do whatever you like."
"Well, not whatever you like," Victoria butted in with a knowing look on her face which made my cheeks redden slightly. "You know the rules Brooklyn."
He ignored his mother and grabbed my hand instead. "I want to show you something." I followed him up three flights of stairs and one ladder until he stopped.
I stood next to him and lost my breath due to the spectacular views. We were standing on his roof it seemed and it was amazing.
"It is beautiful." I walked around in a circle until I had seen the whole view. "I am going to miss this city."
"You will be back before you know it," Brooklyn said as he grabbed both of my hands. "Plus, you will get to go around New York with yours truly. What could be better?"
"I could think of a few things," I joked. I sat down on the roof and Brooklyn followed seconds later.
"Why did you lie earlier?" he asked me quietly. "Why didn't you just tell them?"
"I wasn't sure if you would mind," I admitted slowly. I played with a piece of hair to distract myself. "You haven't mentioned that night since and I thought that you thought it was a mistake. I thought I was doing the right thing. I am sorry."
"There's no need to apologise," he said slowly. He pulled me back into his arms. "And let me tell you, it definitely was not a mistake." I interlocked our hands as a smile made it's way onto my face. "I like you Ella, I really like you."
I didn't know how to respond so I just sat there for a few minutes. As he leaned forward and kissed my cheek the words tumbled out of my mouth. "I like you too." Instead of saying anything else, we both just sat there, staring at the city.
"I can smell food," Brooklyn whispered to me after about five minutes. "We should go back downstairs."
I followed him down to his kitchen where his brothers and parents were sitting at a table. I sat down next to one of his brothers while Brooklyn sat opposite me.
As we ate the meal we made small talk which was mostly about school. It wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be; his whole family was lovely.
"So, are you two doing anything nice this weekend?" David asked as he gestured between Brooklyn and myself. "The weather is meant to be beautiful."
"Ella is actually going to be away for the next few weeks," Brooklyn said. "She is going to stay with her father."
"That sounds lovely," Victoria said. "Does he live anywhere nice?"
"New York," I answered with a shrug. "It won't be too bad. I still have all of my schoolwork to do though so I won't have a chance to do much."
We discussed New York and all of the best places to visit for the next hour or so as we sat in his living room. We also played a video game for a while.
"I have had a really good night but I really must be off," I said as the clock approached the dreaded time of half past nine. "I have a plane to catch and all that."
I said goodbye to everyone and made my way to their front door with Brooklyn. "They really like you." He passed me my bag and grabbed two jackets. He slipped one on and passed me the other. "It is cold out, you will need it."
We made our way out of his house and towards the nearest tube station. I knew I would be late but I really didn't care. Hopefully they would leave without me.
He grabbed my hand and swung it ridiculously in the air which made me laugh. "I'm going to miss you mind." He twirled me around before carrying on walking. "School won't be the same."
"It will be fine," I said. "You will see in me in two weeks anyway."
Once we were on the tube we didn't say a lot to eachother. Only the odd comment about my trip.
Mum had tried phoning me at least five times but I refused to answer in the hope they would give up on me and leave before I arrived back at the house.
Obviously, that didn't happen. Instead, I was left with my horrible stepmother who was looking very grumpy as she was now running slightly late and would have to walk slightly faster in her ridiculous shoes.
As we walked up to the door, I got a pen out of my bag and grabbed Brooklyn's hand. "This is my Skype address. Add me when you get back and I will message you when I am out there so we can keep in touch." I wrote it on his hand before placing the pen back in my bag. "I will miss you."
He hugged me tightly and didn't leave me go for almost a minute. I let myself relax in his arms as my head rested on his chest, right by his heart. I listened to it's slightly faster than normal beat.
"Wait here," I said before I went inside the house to say goodbye to my mother and to my older brother who luckily got out of this trip on the basis of not being able to get out of work. I knew he was lying though, he didn't like our father even more than I didn't like him.
Once we had said our goodbyes and James was waiting in his car to take Brooklyn home - after I had paid him - I rejoined Brooklyn outside my house.
I went to say goodbye to him again but before I had the chance to, he pulled me forward and connected our lips for the second time. This time however, it was much longer and, if I say so myself, much better.
"I will see you in two weeks," he whispered to me as we parted. "I promise. We will have the best day of our lives."
