"Have you made any plans for tomorrow night?" Evie asked as she tapped away at her laptop keys.
"No," I said. "Why?"
"You haven't made any plans?" She questioned. "But it's your birthday. Aren't you doing anything with Brooklyn?"
"I'm not with him all the time you know," I said. "But no, we haven't planned anything. I just want to stay in if I'm honest. I would rather watch films or something."
"That's it," she said as she stood up. "We're doing something. We've got the week off school which means weekend hours so we may as well take advantage of it." She typed away even faster with an excited look on her face. "Wait, why haven't you arranged anything with Brooklyn? Aren't you talking to him?"
"Of course I'm talking to him," I said as I played with my hair. I sat down next to her. "I haven't told him about it."
"He doesn't know?" she said with a gasp. "This is a disaster."
"It really isn't," I said. "He heard Mum and I talk about it the other day and Tyler brought it up yesterday. I just haven't told him directly."
I checked the time and sighed. "I've got to get to work." I grabbed my jacket and threw it on. "I will see you later."
"I'm coming with you," she said with an evil grin. "I want to talk to you about Christmas."
We walked down the stairs and out of the house into the coldness of London. "What do you want to know?"
"Where are you this year?" she asked. "Are you in New York or here?"
"I'm not sure," I said with a shrug. "Why does it matter? It's two weeks away. Plenty of time to arrange things."
"I was just wondering," she said with a shrug. "Can you believe we only have three more months left in school. I can't wait until it's over."
We walked through the doors of the coffee shop at the end of my street where I worked sometimes. Evie went to sit in the corner and I clocked in. Thankfully, there were only a few people in here so I wouldn't have to do much.
"Can you clean the back tables?" Jackie, my boss, asked me.
I grabbed a cloth and some spray and headed over to the tables next to where Evie was sitting. "So, what else did you want to ask me?"
"What are you doing tonight?" a voice behind me said. I turned around quickly only to find a boy I had never seen before standing there.
"Are you talking to me?" Evie asked him.
He shook his head and pointed to me.
"Do I know you?" I asked him before I walked over to another table and cleaned it. I heard him following me.
"Answer my question," he said. "My name is Finn."
"Well Finn," I said with a bitter tone. "Tonight I will be spending my time watching stupid films and eating pizza with her." I pointed my finger at Evie. "Is that enough information for you?"
"Will you go out with me sometime?" he asked. I ignored him and moved to behind the till to take someone's order.
"She has a boyfriend," Evie said to him. "She's deeply in love with him so I wouldn't even try."
I pulled a face at Evie and Finn walked out of the shop. "That was odd." She told me what drink she wanted and I took her money off her.
"Go and follow him," I told her. "Be discreet."
"Why?" she said with a laugh.
"Something's not right," I said. "Someone is up to something."
She walked out of the shop just as Jackie came back into the room.
