"I want to find a way out of this place." Homura told Madoka. Madoka looked unsure.
"But how? Kyubey said this place is another dimension, in another world." Homura nodded.
"Kyubey said that the winner will be taken back though. He can't possibly have a vehicle or machine to take us back. There must be some kind of portal, or magic which can transport us." Madoka nodded, but she was still uncertain.
"We can't find it in the arena though, it's impossible. Kyubey would have it with him, or somewhere we can't reach." Homura nodded, and walked off, not saying anything. Madoka ran after her.
"Homura, didn't you hear what I said? We can't find it. I could make a wish and-"
"No, how many times do I have to keep telling you? Don't make a wish, Madoka. Don't ever make a wish." Having said that, Homura turned back, her hair streaming, as she continued walking.
"Wait, where are you going?" Madoka ran after Homura. Homura didn't stop walking.
"You'll see."Oriko and Kirika watched the small and distant figures of Madoka and Homura travel.
"I wonder where they're going." Oriko mused.
"Should I go finish them off while they're busy?" Kirika jumped up, "I've been itching to fight a Puella Magi for ages. Now that I have the chance to fight anyone I want, I want to make use of this opportunity." Oriko didn't waver.
"Sit down, Kirika, be patient for now, you'll have your chance eventually.""When are we going to reach wherever we're going?" Madoka asked tiredly. Her legs were sore, her breath coming in short gasps, but she couldn't be a burden. She won't be a burden. Homura just kept walking. Whatever toll the walk had brought upon her didn't show. Finally she stopped.
"This place can't end forever, can it? We have to find the edge of Mitakihara City." Homura looked at Madoka. Madoka sighed.
"I'll keep going as best as I can." She promised. Homura nodded.
"Let's keep going."A while later, Oriko saw the miniature silhouettes of Homura and Madoka. They were nearing the border of Mitakihara City. From her elevated view from the collapsed building's roof, she could see a vast plain of emptiness, with the occasional fallen power pole. A dusty track could be seen, winding through a once busy area, now deserted and abandoned.
Madoka blinked, confused.
"Homura-chan, we're here, so-" Homura held out an arm, blocking Madoka from going any further. Reaching out her free hand, she lifted it, almost as if to touch an invisible barrier. Her hand flattened, as though she was pressing against an invisible wall. After a second's hesitation, she reached out her other hand, placing it on the air in front of her. Once again, it flattened.
"An invisible barrier." Homura muttered. Madoka reached out a hand out cautiously. As she placed her hand on the barrier, Madoka gasped in shock, and yanked her hand back.
"Madoka, are you okay?" Homura was concerned immediately, reaching over to look closely at Madoka's hand.
Her palm was red, rather hot, and beginning to peel, as though she had burnt herself on a kettle's surface.
"I-I'm okay," Madoka stuttered, "But I don't understand-"
"Maybe it's because you haven't contracted." Homura said. She stared at the invisible barrier, an unreadable expression on her face. Finally, her shoulders drooped, as though she had come to a decision.
"Madoka, get back," Homura ordered, her voice strong, "I have to blow it up." Madoka looked confused and scared, but she couldn't argue with Homura. Running in the opposite direction, she went back into the ruins of Mitakihara City. Turning back, she saw Homura walk back a couple of paces as well. Watching, she saw numerous bombs set up against where the barrier should be. Homura walked back further, away from the bombs, before pressing a red button. Homura stood there unflinching, as the bombs blew up, sending dust and grime in the air, smothering her. Madoka took a step back fearfully, worried for Homura.
The dust settled, revealing Homura, who stood there unharmed, as she inspected the barrier steadily. There was no sign of any damage to the barrier. Finally, Homura stepped forward, reaching out a hand toward the barrier. As her hand came into contact with the still existing barrier, she slumped, feeling frustrated."They're trying to break through the barrier!" Kyubey's voice broke through, as he stared intently at the screen, his white tail twitching. Jyuubey was next to him.
"Are you sure?"
"Of course, Homura just discovered our barrier, and tried to blow it up!" Kyubey replied. Juubey blinked at the screen.
"No worries, they can't break through it," Juubey shrugged, "I had our most talented incubators design it, so it can't be destroyed by magic or any other force. It can only be deactivated, and even then, for a certain amount of time." Kyubey blinked.
"So it can't be destroyed?" Juubey flicked an ear.
"It can be destroyed, but you would have to build up so much energy in the wall that it couldn't contain itself, so it would explode and shatter. The energy needed for that is way beyond the universe's energy." Juubey seemed rather smug about that as he sat down, his tail curling neatly over his paws. Kyubey settled himself in front of Juubey.
"You forget that we have one of the strongest energy sources in that arena, right next to the barrier." Kyubey reminded.
"Who? Madoka Kaname?" Juubey questioned. Kyubey nodded.
"I discovered Miss Kaname a long time ago. She has one of the strongest energies I have ever seen. I had to bring her here into the arena, to force her into a contract. Unfortunately, Homura has been protecting her, giving her no need to contract." Juubey's eyes gleamed.
"Perhaps then, we can cause some...incidents, which will solve our problem."
