I laid on the couch with a heavy heart. The television becoming a blur and a muffled sound as I watched the rain pour through the window next to it.
The rain usually made James very sleepy, despite him being such an energetic one and filling the house with chirps and songs.
The rhythmic beating of the raindrops on the rooftop almost sent me to sleep as well, thought I was too hurt to do much of anything.
Rin came before the downpour of rain with a tub of ice cream. Not strawberry, she noted. As that was his favorite.
A loud ring invaded the semi quiet space, the doorbell was rung. I huffed out a sigh, not wanting to get up and already knowing who it was. He'll leave soon.
A pause came before the ring became loud and constant.
I opened the door to see Fukase soaked to the shoes. Red hair wet and damp on his face. He had no umbrella, nor a big enough jacket to fend off from the chilling weather.
"Look, I don't mean to continue anything. I just want to say I'm sorry. I messed up. I know that now."
I slammed the door back as a reply.
The doorbell went into another spasm.
I reluctantly opened the door back up to his sorry self.
"I hope the streets flood so you'll drown in it." I hissed.
"People make mistakes okay? I'm not perfect and I'm sorry that I'm using it as an excuse but it's honestly all I can say at the moment."
What a dumbass to come over here with barely a half decent reason. I didn't want him here. But I didn't want him in the rain and getting a cold. It was a twisted feeling that I had to shut down inside me before I show it.
"Saying that people make mistakes doesn't fix what I saw."
He shifted his weight between his feet and bit his bottom lip, carefully thinking about what he's going to say next. He does that when he's contemplating, I know that. I hate that I know that.
"C-Can...Can I... at the very least say goodbye?"
He took a step forward but I pushed him back before backing up accordingly."The last thing you are going to do is come in here and getting my living room floor wet."
"T-Then..." he hesitated before pulling me out into the rain with him, holding me in an embrace and kissing my forehead. "How 'bout you come out here instead?" He whispered softly against the pouring rain.
"Fukase..."
"I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry. Please forgive me, please please....I don't need anything else...I love you and I'm sorry..." he rambled on in a murmur. As if he was trying to comfort himself as well.
My shirt became as wet as his jacket in the embrace, and my hair and shorts followed after, soaking in the rain. Despite the rain making everything cold and wet, at the same time, Fukase's body gave warmth. Drops from the sky came cold, but among those, warm ones fell down too.
I looked up at the mess his face had become. Eyes puffy and reddish from the quiet sobbing he was trying to hold in before.
It was clear he was more apart then I was. Somehow, it felt like he was holding himself together with me in his arms.
"You're the only one I love I swear."
