Oliver sat at his desk, watching the sunrise through his window. It's been two years since the war between the two countries started. He hasn't seen his lover ever since he left so many months ago. But after all this time, next week would be the day he'd finally return home. Back to safety, and back to him.

Oliver looked back at the letter he completed writing and stuffed it into an envelope for delivery. He wrote a letter to him each week, hoping for his well being and ensuring him that he is doing fine in the home alone. Sometimes, he'd write how his day was if he was feeling enthusiastic, or write about a fun event if something happened.

Unfortunately, Fukase wasn't able to write back most of the time. But for his sake, Fukase had some of the friends he made along the way reply to most of Oliver's letters. 'He was a good soldier that's why.' One of them replied when he asked why Fukase couldn't write as much as they did. 'They like how he is very skilled. You needn't worry.'

Oliver got up from his desk and skipped out the door to send the letter to the post office. The final letter before Fukase got to return home.

———— A Week Later ————

Today was the day the soldiers were all returning home. Oliver was elated, almost running towards the train station.

His mind was full of things he and Fukase were to do once they were reunited. Maybe he could bake a nice delicious cake for the two birthdays he missed while the other was gone. Or they could go walking alongside the coastline as the other would talk about his time away.
But before anything else, he was going to hug him so tight for as long as he can so he can't leave him ever again.

Once he entered the train station, he was practically gasping for air. He looked out upon the busy station of families excited for their lover, father, mother, sister, brother, or whatever they were to them to come back.
He made his way through the crowd just in time for the train to come to a stop.

A government official approached him before he could greet and welcome Fukase home.

"Oliver Wright?" The man questioned.

"Y-yes?"

The man carefully rummaged through his bag of envelopes and slipped one out to hand over. "I'm sorry for your loss." He spoke softly tipping his hat.

Oliver's eyes went wide looking from the man to the carefully crafted letter in his now shaking hands. No, it couldn't be. Oliver quickly opened the envelope and read the letter anxiously. Reading it over a second time, a third, maybe a fourth time too.   Feeling lightheaded skimming through, he looked up again to see the officer nowhere in sight. Most likely handing out the other envelopes he had. Oliver looked back down at the date printed of Fukase's passing. He was helpless in his thoughts.  Why isn't he here?! Did he really...die? How? Why?! Weren't there medics somewhere?! What was the last letter he read??

He looked up back at the busy station and caught a dash of silver hair leaving one of he train's boxes. Before he knew it, he was running through the crowd, anxious for an answer.

"Piko!" Oliver called, grabbing the taller man's attention. It wasn't right to be the first one to greet him if course, but his fiancé was unfortunately still in the middle of their work shift. "Piko, where's Fukase??"

Piko eyed the military stamp on the letter the other was holding onto so tightly.

"Oliver I can't....I don't...." He breathed in. "I don't want to confirm it for you. I'm sorry." He whispered under his breath.

Oliver looked up at him desperately. This isn't right. This wasn't right. What was he going to do now? The blonde sunk onto the station floor, unable to hold back his despairing cries. Receiving sorrowful faces from onlookers around him, Knowing all too well.

So for the full story I'm writing on the side, it's taking a bit to fit pieces together. I'm doing a little foreshadowing thing and I'm just planning out how it'll look like. But enjoy this one shot for the time being!
