4. Hogwarts and Umbridge

Zelda's P.O.V.

The train was nearing Hogwarts. Link and I stepped off the train. I could tell Link was nervous. He grabbed my hand as we made our way to the woman calling first years over to her. We crossed a huge lake with the other first years. McGonagall greeted us and guided us to a huge dining hall. She started calling off names by last name first. The Order decided Link's last name would be Faron and mine would be Lanayru, after two of Hyrule's provinces.

"Faron, Link" she called. She placed an ancient looking hat on Link's head.

"Gryffindor!" it yelled. Link went to go sit with the group off kids that were cheering.

"Lanayru, Zelda." she called a little while later. She placed the hat on my head.

"Hm. A lot of wisdom I see. But a fair amount of courage too. Where to put you. I know." it said in my ear. "Gryffindor!"

I went to go sit with Link. Dumbledore got up to make a speech, but was interrupted halfway through by a toad-like woman in pink called Umbridge. She went into long speech about the Ministry and education. She talked down to the entire student body like we were infants.

One look at Link and I could tell he and this Umbridge won't get along. Nobody talks down to him like that, not even father and he's a king. Link is a seasoned warrior and is well respected. He commands a lot of respect for an eleven year old. It took him a long time to earn that respect and absolutely despises being talked to like a child. He sat there with his arms crossed and glared at her with hatred in his eyes. Unfortunentally, she noticed.

When she was finished we were told to eat. The entire time Umbridge's gazed moved from Harry to Link and I. Link would glare at her whenever her gaze fell on us. I could hear is mental threats and curses. At one point Link told me he was considering skewering her with his sword. After dinner, Ron and Hermione took all first years to a place called Gryffindor Tower and told us to go to bed.

The next morning at breakfast we received our schedules. To Link's dismay, the first class we had was Defense Against the Dark Arts with Umbridge. Lovely. Though after the way she was talking last night, I was too thrilled either. We ate our breakfast and followed some classmates to the classroom.

Link and I sat next to each other. He was playing with a knife to distract himself. Umbridge entered and ordered everyone to put their wands away. She gave the usual first day of school speech. Her name, rules, the class, why we're here, ect.

"Pull out your books and read chapter one." she ordered.

Link's hand shot up while everyone one else got out their books. She clearly noticed, and ignored. Big mistake. I remembered Link's knife and grabbed it before he could throw it. I knew why Link had his hand up, so I put up mine.

"Yes, dear?" she asked.

"Will we be reading often, madam?" I asked as politely as I could.

"Yes Miss Lanayru we will be reading often." she answered. "Is that a problem?"

"Not for me madam." I said sweetly. "It's just Link can read, just not in English."

"When you're raised by a tree, that'll happen." he pointed out.

"Students will raise their hands before speaking in my class, Mr. Faron." she snapped.

"Well I had my hand raised and you rudely ignored it. And you will not speak to me like I'm a child. I am a soldier in the King's guard and you will treat me with respect." he said, giving her the death glare. "And you will not speak to Princess Zelda in that tone either."

"One more outburst and you have detention." she hissed.

"You don't scare me lady." he said bluntly. "I've fought monsters worse than you. I fought the Evil King himself." He pulled out the Master Sword. "If anything you should be afraid of me. I am a master swordsman and archer."

"Detention!" she yelled. "Take this to Professor McGonagall." She handed him a piece of paper and he walked out of the classroom.

Haha Link's not going to take Umbridge's bull shit. I hated her the first time her character was mentioned. Having a character try to knock Umbridge into her place was the only reason I made this take place during the fifth book. Don't worry, Link and Umbridge will butt horns in more chapters. Nintendo owns the Legend of Zelda characters. J.K. Rowling owns the Harry Potter characters.
