It's been almost a month since she's been out the hospital. She hasn't really been out and about.
She was recently in the studio finishing up a feature for a song called No New Friends.
"Ryan, let me do that again." She said.
"You wanna take a break?" He asked.
"No, keep going."
"Alright." Ryan said replaying the track.
Beyoncé walked in the studio after coming from the kitchen. She stood behind Ryan as Kodie finished up her verse.
"Has she taken a break?" Beyoncé asked.
"No. I asked if she wanted to. She said no."
Beyoncé watched Kodie rub her head while she rapped.
Beyoncé stopped the track and Kodie looked.
"Kodie, take a break." Beyoncé said.
"I'm fine ma."
"Why you keep rubbing your head? You got a headache?"
Kodie sighed. "I'm just tryna finish this verse. I got a deadline."
"Baby, you've only been home a month. It's okay if you have a headache."
"Ma, stop! Let me finish my verse, damn." Kodie snapped.
Ryan's eyes went wide. He looked at Beyoncé and she looked at him.
"I'll be in the kitchen." He said getting up and leaving.
Beyoncé looked at the booth. "Get out here."
Kodie sucked her teeth taking off the headphones. She walked in the studio where her mother stood.
"Have a seat."
Kodie sat down on the couch.
"I don't know who the hell you talking to but do not in your life talk to me like that." Beyoncé said. "You're still healing so I'm letting it slide. Do not play with me Kodie, I'm not gonna let anymore of your shit slide. We clear?"
"Yeah, we're clear."
"Why are you stressing yourself out?" Beyoncé asked.
"I'm not. I'm just tryna finish this verse."
Beyoncé sighed.
"After this feature you're taking a real break. You will not be in the studio. You're next performance will be at SXSW."
"Are you serious?"
"Dead ass. You need to relax and heal. You keep getting these headaches because you're pushing yourself too hard."
Kodie shook her head.
"What are you shaking your head for? I'm not asking you to rest I'm telling you."
"I just wanna make music." Kodie mumbled.
"What?"
"I just wanna make music. It's not the same anymore. I can't be in here too long or my head starts to hurt or I get winded."
"Kodie, it's not always gonna be like that." Beyoncé said.
"How you know that? I just want everything to go back to normal." She said.
