The door opens suddenly, the click of the latch turning too loud in the quiet hallway. It catches Hoseok off-guard so he's a bit sloppy in his singing, but Namjoon's not any better and it's 'Happy Birthday' anyway.

Hoseok is honestly surprised that Yoongi opens the door when he knocks - even though he and Namjoon are standing off to the side so they can't be seen through the frosted glass of the door, there couldn't be any doubt as to who would be knocking on Yoongi's door at midnight on his birthday.

Perhaps most surprising, Yoongi doesn't even yell 'fuck off' a few times like he normally does. Hoseok shoots a look to Namjoon who raises his eyebrows in response, phone already out and ready to record. The last two years Hoseok's come alone on Yoongi's birthday, and even with the promise of a fucking that Yoongi would feel for days to come, he still kicked up a fuss at being interrupted.

He sticks his foot out, fully prepared to catch the door when Yoongi goes to close it again, but Yoongi doesn't. He stands in the doorway and blushes, pale skin flushed and eyes wide and glassy. Which brings Hoseok to conclusion number two: either Yoongi is stoned, or he's so sleep deprived that he is, for all intents and purposes, high. Yoongi steps forward, and Hoseok is glad he moves the cake out of the way because Yoongi plants a sloppy kiss right on his mouth, broad hands snaking around to the back of his head.

"Woah," Namjoon says, quickly intervening and grabbing the cake from Hoseok's outstretched hand. "Gonna have to trim that bit out too."

Yoongi pulls away abruptly, mouth already swollen and spit slicked. He darts his eyes to Namjoon and his mouth spreads in a wide grin.

"Joonie," he says, and his voice is hoarse, scratchy beyond his normal rasp. "Are you the special surprise?"

Namjoon glances at Hoseok who shrugs. It was Namjoon's idea for the midnight birthday cake surprise, but he can't think of any other surprises that either of them promised Yoongi.
