i walked into school, people whispering around me.

"is that emily?"
"no, that's a boy. but he looks way too much like emily."
"no, that's emily, she just got a haircut."

why did i have to be unhappy as a girl? why couldn't i just be normal?

dad said it's "perfectly normal to question your gender" but i know it's not.

"emily? babe? are you okay?" shit. wade. my boyfriend. i never told him.

i dragged him to the bathroom and tried not to look suspicious.

"wade, my name isn't emily anymore. it's peter, and yeah, i'm transgender. if you wanna break up with me, i won't mind." tears started welling up in my eyes.

"why would i break up with you? i love you for your personality, not your gender or your looks!" i smiled at him, and he smiled back.

"thanks, wade." i hugged him, tight, never wanting to let go.

"no problem, petey. i love you."
