FLASHBACK
SOME ROOFTOOP IN QUEENS
MONTHS BEFORE THE WAR
"This feels off." Taking a bite out of a sandwich Peter had packed (and made) for her, Val glanced over at Peter, who removed his focus on the sun setting to look over the the girl beside him. "W-What? Did I put some topping you didn't like? It's usually how I make mine, crap, of course I should've asked you."
Wiping her mouth, Valeria couldn't help but softly laugh at Peter's mini outburst. "Parker, the sandwich is perfect. I'm talking about being up here with you, as in Peter Parker, and not Spider-Man coming off duty." Truth be told, Peter hadn't even realized the difference. Maybe Spider-Man had just become so embedded into his personality that finding differences were hard. Valeria was one of the few people who he could sit next to still in his suit and it not being weird, she was his super powered friend.
They had to compromise since their rooftoop conversations became limited after Valeria moved away. Her visits became less frequent as the months went by, having to split time with their other friends and Manny. Luckily, the neighborhood didn't seem to need the man in a red and blue spandex suit which resulted in him sitting next to Val in his regular clothes finishing up the two sandwiches he packed.
"Harry is probably gonna be so mad when I don't show up to save him from the movie marathon Ned and MJ are going to put him through."
"I'm sure he'll understand when you tell him we were hanging out." Peter's sense of calmness confused Valeria, he was so sure of his statement. It took the boy around five seconds to realize what he said and about another five seconds for his cheeks to flush.
"And why would he understand? Harry is usually very stubborn." The various conversations he had with Harry regarding Valeria ran through Peter's mind, most of them ending with Harry playfully teasing him over being head over heels for Valeria. MJ and Ned usually joined in even though Peter sought out their help. It seemed like everyone else had took notice of Peter Parker's growing feelings for the girl, even her own uncle had been able to do so, except Valeria Garcia. The girl who could read any mind she could or feel what the other was feeling had no idea the boy beside her had knots in his stomach all because of her.
"We... just... made a deal, b-beforehand. Anyways, the sunset looks pretty." Valeria didn't buy his words any bit, but noticing the way Peter started to fiddle around with his hands in response to his nervousness, she let it go. "I don't get to sit down and enjoy it as much, I'm usually swinging around until nighttime."
"You've saved anybody from a life or death situation lately?"
"I think I've been able to save them before they actually happen. Remember the new sense sensitive power I told you about through one of our Skype calls? It keeps advancing. It's pretty cool actually."
"Wow, Parker. Copying my powers? Spider-Man is about to beat me out before I even ever make my superhero debut!" The pair shared a laugh, taking in the freedom they had in being able to talk about their powers out loud. A brief rush of guilt hit Valeria, realizing she had yet to tell Peter about the Avengers. She debated to tell him right there and now, they were alone and her next visit would be until next month.
But the moment her eyes caught sight of Peter's smile, his muscles loosen up, and taking in the breeze, Valeria couldn't ruin this. Two enhanced teenagers rarely got moments like this. She couldn't ruin it now.
"Hey, at least we both sense danger, or even death. Nobody can call it cheating! Well, you also have the whole 'reading minds' thing, you have an even bigger advantage. I wonder who would find out those things first between us." His last words came off with a challenging, but playful tone of voice, catching Valeria off guard a bit.
"Well then, let's make a deal. If one of us senses it or just knows it first, we let each other know so we can save the day— together." Valeria knew she had to do a lot more, like reveal to Peter that they shared the same mentor, but she just really liked the idea of them fighting and saving the day as a duo. Even if it never happened or there was still a long way to go, speaking it into existence didn't do any harm.
"But doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of being the hero of the day and saving one another?" Receiving a playful push from Valeria, Peter laughed it off. "Come on, share the spotlight! We got a deal, Parker?"
"We got a deal, Amaya."

PRESENT DAY
"Val?" The girl couldn't help but jump at Peter's whisper, not being able to focus her senses on anything else but the incoming feeling of their enemy arriving in the planet. Strange was the one who took the lead on how to execute the actual plan, urging Valeria to ease her empathy powers in order to prevent any events that could mess up what they know has to happen. "Peter, I really don't think it's the right time—"
"I know, I know. I just, I want to make sure you're okay. You've been shaken up ever since you... saw something." Please, please, don't ask. "What was it? Was it the same as when you first got here?"
His eyes were filled with genuine worry, he just wanted to truly know if she was okay. Peter deserved the truth, something they had promised each other not so long ago to tell one another. But this was different. Looking at his face, taking in just about everything Valeria knew she loved about it but couldn't bring herself to ever admit, she just couldn't tell him. How are you supposed to tell someone their fate?
"Y-Yeah. That's what it was. Don't worry about me, Parker. We have a plan to execute."
