An anchor chaining you, a cage trapping you,
A door, state, or even bars in your own head
Obstructing you from entering open skies, untamed waters;
From having freedom.
Everyone has the right to be free,
Whether it be in your own mind or not.
To be free is to have no restraints.
To be free is to be liberated.
There is no freedom without constraint,
No peace without war, no love without hate.
How do you know release from shackles of confinement
If you've never experienced the shackles themselves?
Freedom is not liberation
If you don't know what you're liberated from.
Freedom is acknowledging the fact
That you survived the times when freedom was lost.
But once you've broken those bonds, it's worth it.
The weight off your shoulders, chains off arms.
You will rub your wrists, lick your wounds, and shake off the memory
Like a butterfly breaking out of its cocoon.
The clouds, the purity, the relief.
The skies, the clarity, the ease.
Fly above and laugh down at your trials
For this is what it means to be free.
