Warming Up || Station One

"-and at that point, I was all like, 'dude, it's paint, you can-"

"Do you ever shut up?" Keith muttered and sent daggers in the other boy's direction. They'd been in the car for almost four hours and not once did the annoying teen shut his trap. Lance stopped, his mouth snapping closed.

"Geez," he grumbled lightly and turned his gaze out the window to watch the desert rush by. "You could have just asked me to be quiet, Mullet Boy." Keith gritted his teeth at the comment.

"Mullet Boy?" He demanding, throwing his hands in the air, "Oh real mature. My name's Keith." Vincente sighed in the front seat, sending a glance in his wife's direction. Maria smiled softly at him.

"You're the one who won't grow up, Neck Warmer!" Lance shot back. "I don't know if you've ever noticed but the 80s were almost forty years ago." The kid was already turning out to be a complete jerk.

"I'll kill-!"

"Shut it! Both of you!" Shiro whirled around from the bench just in front of theirs, glaring at the two males. "Keith, Lance was talking to me. If you don't want to listen then put your headphones in." Keith muttered to himself and crossed his arms, turning his gaze to stare out the window again, his eyes trailing over the horizon. Lance clenched his jaw. "I'll tell you later," he muttered and turned to look out the window as well.

After another twenty or so minutes, Maria cleared her throat from the front seat, turning to look at Keith over her shoulder. "How about you tell us about yourself, Keith?"

The dark haired male turned to look at the woman before shrugging lightly and turning back to the window. Lance glared over at him and drew in a sharp breath. "You could at least show my mother some respect, jackass," he grumbled.

Keith whirled around to face him. "Maybe I don't feel like talking about myself right now, Bird Brain," he ground out. Shiro let out a breath and ran a hand through his hair. He prayed they'd learn to get along for the sake of everyone else in the McClain family.

Keith closed his mouth when the small city caught his eye. It wasn't what he had in mind when Shiro told him about it. Vincente pulled up to a gas pump and got out to fill the tank. Keith gawked at the almost lifeless city, his eyes straining to catch sight of any building taller than two stories.

There were none.

Lance turned his gaze away from Keith when the car pulled to a stop, letting out a small snort when he saw the expression on the others face. "Welcome to Silver City," he mused lightly, a cocky smile on his face, "population you ask? A humble 10,000."

Keith turned to him, mouth agape. "Only 10,000 people?"

Lance nodded his head in amusement. "10,000 is actually a lot of people. That's like 1,000 plus 10."

Keith nearly face palmed, "It's times 10." Lance glared at the other boy.

"Whatever dropout, our house is just on that hill over there." Keith peeled his gaze away from Lance and turned to look at a hill in the distance. His stomach turned.

"Yep," Maria piped up from the front seat, a large smile on her face, "Vincente grew up here with his family. I come from Cuba and we actually met in college." Lances grin only grew as Shiro nodded blankly.

"You gotta be kidding me," Keith whispered out.

After a few more minutes of driving, the minivan finally reached its final destination. A large house on the side of the hill. After Shiro got out of the car, Lanced hopped down onto the cracked cement of his driveway and stretched his arms above his head. He turned to look at a few clouds in the distance.
