roses won't win my heart
roses are an icon of plastic
for they wilt after just days
thrown away to be replaced with another
just like the girl you met at the party a few months ago
dressed to the nines in her flashy silver heels
her hair in a ponytail
and lips dusted in red
but like a rose,
when you give her away
she sits and loses herself slowly
the red on her lips melting away with her tears
watching as she is replaced with another
so give me a sunflower instead
for they are beautiful and strong
lasting in the harshest of weather
brightening up every room they accompany
taking pain head on and standing tall
just like you should
only growing from the past
rather than letting it destroy you.
