It's been five days since the plane crashed.
We've taken a head count of who we know survived, although it's hard knowing the plane broke into five pieces. All of my friends, are alive, although Lauren, Marlene, Shauna and I are not in the best condition. We know of a bit over thirty people are alive and, somewhat, well. The doctor has taken care of everyone with the medical kits, five spread throughout the entire plane. We are running low on pain medication, and we are all given lower doses of it a day. I'm beginning to feel more effects of my leg, and it's been awful.
The skin looks disgusting when they change the dressings, and my bone is nowhere close to healed. It's shattered and little fragments are everywhere. All I can do is sit inside the crashed part of a plane and hope, that in some way, we could get help.
"I have some food for you." Tobias switches my thoughts of gruesome pain to ones of relief when he walks in with a bowl of somewhat warmed soup and some crackers.
I give him as warm of a smile as I can, "Thank you. How are we doing on food?"
"We got a few more suitcases that had some food in it. There were some passengers on a mission trip that brought tons of cans of food, so we are all having a little extra today."
I breath out, a little more hope replacing my overwhelming fear. The soup warms my entire body as it trickles down my throat, almost seeming like a treat. I eat slowly, as if wondering how long there will be until another meal.
"How are you getting along?" Tobias asks, sitting next to me.
I breath out slowly, grimacing through a shot of harsh pain through the limb, "I'm doing something like okay. I swear it's getting worse."
"Well doc said if somebody finds us soon then we will be able to fix it all." He continues, holding my hand.
It still itches at the back of my mind, thinking that he might only be doing this to comfort me. When we get back home, and are all fixed up, he will surely just leave me. My head lays against the rough pillow, pounding with a headache.
"Do you need s-" Tobias starts, but I interrupt sharply with, "Stop asking if I'm okay. I'm not a child."
He immediately let's go of my hand, scooting back a few inches, "Bea, is something wrong?"
I close my eyes, on the verge of tears, "I'm sorry, it just hurts."
The lie was almost true.
Tobias breaths deeply, moving back next to me, "I know my tiny little BumbleBea, but I have you."
"What are we?" I blurt, the question seeming to ask itself.
Tobias' eyes immediately widen, "What is that supposed to mean?" I bite my lip harshly, scolding myself for such a reckless outburst.
"We broke up not that long ago, why are you only coming back to me now? I feel like it's just because I'm basically a cripple now." I admit, looking down.
He shakes his head, "Bea, I don't know what to feel. We are stranded in the middle of the woods, half of us suffering, desperate for some shelter. One thing's for sure, you aren't just defined as a cripple, but I still want to be here for you. I have no idea at this point, about Eric and you, but I know I'll be your friend no matter what."
Tears begin to well up in my already pained eyes, "You know I would never, ever do something with Eric."
"Then tell me." He sighs.
Something deep inside ensures me that it's okay to tell this man everything in me. "If you want to know the truth," I begin, realizing how small the beginning situation was, "It's so simple."
"So what was it, then?"
I laugh, probably from hysteria, "All that happened was I got pushed by somebody. I thought you might freak out so I avoided telling you."
He smirks, "If you would have told me I would have left it alone, as long as it was the whole truth."
"It really was. I was afraid that it might blow up and that somebody would die," I whisper, feeling stupid.
Tobias kisses my cheek, "All I wanted to hear was the honest, true situation. Now, I just need to know what happened with Eric."
"Everything I told you was true, he was drunk and probably horny." I laugh, leaning on his shoulder.
For once, I am feeling at home with him, like I truly don't have to worry. Before I can admit any feelings, we're interrupted by an awfully loud noise from above us. Suddenly, lights start shining down from the sky, and there are ladders dropped through trees. The group begins to cluster near us, screaming as our rescuers drop down. I laugh and scream and wish I could get up to help.
Tobias stays right beside me, not daring to lose contact. Some medics rush over to me, immediately assessing my injury. I grimace in pain, gripping Toby's hand as they . "It isn't looking good Dr. Valmez, she needs to get out of here this instant." The first woman shouts out, and the other swarm around me.
"Sir, you need to come over here." Another medic says, trying to push Tobias away.
"No!" I interject, "He has to stay with me, I won't leave without him beside me!"
"Ma'am, he needs to have his own injuries assessed. You have to separate."
"No, I'm staying with her." Tobias decides.
Who I assume to be Dr. Valmez shake his head, "Let him stay, they'll both be asleep in a while anyways."
"What does that mean?" I ask, then grit my teeth as they poke at my leg once more.
"You will all be given dose of medication to knock you out for the flight to the hospital. Then we can take care of any emergencies and you'll be comfortable."
Tobias gives me a short and sweet kiss, "I love you, my BumbleBea, no matter what."
The words echo in my head as an injection is put in my vein, and I drift off to a pitch black sleep.
