The years pass by quickly when everything is finally going right. Tobias and I both graduated, and had pretty good GPA's. We both went to University of Chicago, along with Christina, Zeke, Uriah and Marlene. Will went to Harvard, being himself, and Shauna, Lauren and Lynn went to University of Illinois at Chicago. We still stayed close, even through the rough spots.
Christina and Will were the first to move away, to New York. There, they got married when they were 24, four years ago. I remember the wedding vividly, it was extravagant and beautiful. Christina works in fashion design, mainly for smaller celebrities. Her company is growing fast, and we all think she is going to be amazing. Will started a law firm with a family friend, and they are massively popular in New York. Christina had their first child when they were 26, and she is now 2 years old. Her name is Jasmin, and she is just as sassy as her mama. My best friend came out of the drama of high school with a wonderful life, and I miss her so much. Every day I am proud of her life, and let her know every time we talk.
Zeke and Shauna are actually both in the police force, down in Indianapolis. Shauna got pregnant while she was in college, so she and Zeke got married when she was 22. I was a bridesmaid, and helped her plan most of the details. They were the first ones to get married out of our friend group. They have two daughters, Eliana and Rosie, who are 6 and 3. They enjoy their job and their perfect little family, and I've always been happy for them.
Marlene and Uriah got married right after Zeke and Shauna, after they had already bought a house. Surprisingly, they moved to California. Marlene is a vocal coach, and Uriah started a food truck. We all thought he was going to crash and burn but he is very successful. He sells home style foods in the heart of L.A., and has two trucks right now. He's even in the process of opening a small restaurant, with the help of some investors. We usually go to Marlene and Uriah's house a few days during the summer, for a nice vacation. They were probably the most drastic change from our lives in Chicago.
Lauren and Lynn work at a gym, that Tobias and I opened up. They are trainers for us, Lauren does yoga, and Lynn holds cycling classes. They adopted a little boy, Justin, who likes to follow me around at work. They live in a penthouse together in the heart of the city, and they have an adorable family. They're even thinking of adopting a little girl soon, so Justin isn't an only child. They are our closest friends now, since they work for Tobias and I.
As is known, Tobias and I opened up a gym. I wanted to be a trainer, before everything happened, but now I manage most of the business here. Our gym is called The Dauntless Determined, and we actually have many committed clients. We have normal gym amenities, obviously, and a pool. Our most popular workouts are the classes, yoga, cycling, lifting and tumbling. Tobias and I got married when we were both 26, two years ago. I've had trouble having children, and it's been hard. About a year ago, I had a miscarriage. It was the hardest time of my life, worse than losing a limb. The doctor said I have only a five percent chance of a successful pregnancy, but I've been trying relentlessly. We've been trying relentlessly.
Life is pulling together, despite hardships like that. I am on my feet, well, foot, and doing just fine.
"Bea, babe, we are going to be late for the family dinner!" Tobias calls from downstairs.
I sigh, smoothing out my skirt. I can't say I'm not beyond excited, it's my favorite day of the year. I've just been feeling under the weather for a couple weeks. Maybe a month or two. Tobias knocks on the door frame, leaning against the wall, "Are you ready, love?"
"Always." I sigh, grabbing my leather jacket. It's the one Christina gave me, the first day we met. I've never forgotten it. It was a small act of kindness after a time of darkness. It meant the world.
