The first thing you noticed was the annoying beeps besides you. You almost groaned out loud when you realized that you were in an infirmary. Your mouth was incredibly dry, and you wanted to go back to sleep, but your brain was too awake by now. An intense soreness made you exhale sharply, which in turn sent a burst of pain through your torso. That's right, I got shot."(Y/n)?" Your dad said. Hold on, what-? How did I get here?
Your eyes snapped open, squinting a little when they were met with a bright white ceiling. Instinctively, you tried to sit up, releasing a pathetic squeak when pain ripped through muscles you didn't even know existed. "Wait, don't move. You'll rip open your stitches again."
"W-water..." You choked out, mouth officially feeling like lead. A plastic cup suddenly appeared in front of you, and you sipped desperately.
There was the click of heels and then the sound of curtains opening, and you suddenly felt soft hands on your face. You jerked a little when a light was flashed in your eyes, whining when your chest burned.
"Mm, as I thought. She's still concussed and might feel a little confused for the next few days, but her internal wounds have healed wonderfully. No signs of leftover internal bleeding whatsoever."
"Angela?" You mumbled deliriously. Your eyes finally came into focus, and the young woman's worried face filled your vision. She pressed a strange healing device to your face, and you welcomed to cool feeling. Looking around, you were mildly surprised to see Lena standing silently at Angela's side, with a distressed expression. Your breath caught in your throat when you finally saw your father. His visor was off.
"We'll be back in a bit," Angela said, gesturing towards Lena. Lena laced her fingers together, nodding. "Get better, love."
With that, the two women left. You tensed, unsure of what Genji was about to say to you. Guilt began to eat you alive, knowing that you had attacked your own family.
"(Y/n)... Look at me." You didn't budge. You didn't want to cry when you looked at the disappointment on his face. "(Y/n), I'm not upset. Nobody's upset." With that, you finally glanced up, mind blanking a little when you saw the same brown eyes that would stare at you in the mirror. He looked tired as if he hadn't slept for days.
"I'm sorry." You blurted out scratchily, throat hurting as soon as you spoke.
His cheeks curved up as he smiled under the metal mouthpiece. "Shh, there's nothing to apologize about."
"I'm sorry anyway." You said stubbornly, wanting to tell him about how sorry you were for lying about your identity, for working with Talon, hell, for attacking him with the intention to kill.
He stayed silent this, time, eyes softening. "I was so terrified that I had lost you." Genji pulled up a chair so he could sit next to your bedside. He placed his hand on top of yours and squeezed it. You couldn't say anything, your brain racing a hundred miles an hour to understand what was going on.
"Long ago," he started. "I had faults and flaws. I still do, ask anyone. I slept with any woman I wanted and didn't take my duties to my clan seriously. But when Misaki came to me, with you in her arms... I turned her away. I turned both of you away. It took me years to realize that that was the worst mistake of my entire misspent youth I had ever made.
