A/N~ Okay so I hadn't realized that the mature rating wasn't on and since this particular chapter does have a scene of attempted murder that's going to be changed real quick. Also the picture was found through google.~

"(y/n)?"

You heard (f/n)'s voice from above you. Your head throbbed as you slowly opened your eyes to reveal that it was night. A blanket of stars was visible behind (f/n) who leaned over you with a worried expression. Taking a look around you observed that you were behind the cover of some barrels on the deck of an old wooden ship. The sound of heavy footsteps resounded as you slowly sat up. Both of you peeked cautiously around the barrels to glimpse at the approaching stranger.

From your position you were able to make out the outline of a large burly, muscular man with a large pompadour hairstyle. As he drew closer, seemingly in search of something, you saw that he wore a white chef's outfit with a bright yellow scarf around his shoulders, his hair was brown and he sported a dark goatee. Your jaw dropped at the sight.

"Is that who I think it is?" (f/n) whispered.

Waiting in silence you watched the scene unfold before you. The pompadour-haired man was holding something in his hand and seemed to be looking for something on deck. Maybe he heard the two of you earlier? When the shadow of what seemed like a shorter man began to creep up behind him. And in the shadow's hands was the unmistakable glinting outline of a knife.

At the sight of the weapon you and (f/n) immediately shot up and as you charged toward the men. (F/n) took one of the barrels you had been hiding behind and chucked it at the shadow. This caused a chain reaction in which the angle of the blade was directed off course from its target and the burly man having been caught off guard by your presence was tackled to the ground more easily. The end result was that the blade ended up imbedded in your shoulder instead of its intended mark. The object that was in the burly man's hand flew through the air and landed near the shadowy man's feet, who then proceeded to pick up said object before running off.

You were crumpled on the ground gripping your shoulder tightly from the immense pain. (F/n) had rushed over to your side and along with the burly man called out for help. Before blacking out the last things you observed were the feeling of strong arms lifting you off the wooden floor and a pleasant smell of men's cologne.

~ a few hours later~

The smell was still there when you woke up in the ship's infirmary. Feeling a presence next to you before opening your eyes your first assumption was that it was (f/n). However, when you turned your head and opened your eyes you were greeted with the sight of the man you saved sleeping with his head atop his folded arms. Moving slowly, you sat up in an attempt to not disturb him, but failed as he stirred and blinked a few times before looking at you.

He had a pleasant smile on his face as he sat up and greeted you and then pointed at your wrapped and wounded shoulder.

"Morning stranger! How ya feeling?"

His smile was infectious and the man just had this aura which made you want to trust him.

"Honestly I'm pretty sore. But at the same time I don't think I've slept that good in years."

His grin somehow grew wider without becoming unpleasant.

"Good to hear. That's kinda to be expected when you get stabbed and get out alive. Oh! By the way my name's Thatch."

"(Y/n)" you replied then shook Thatch's hand in introduction.

The both of you stared into each other's eyes for a moment before pulling away. Somehow despite only just meeting, the silence of that moment didn't feel awkward at all. At least not until your stomach growled. Then he turned to a table that was beside you and grabbed a plate of rice balls that you hadn't noticed there before. "Here I made this you. Took a bit to get it here since I had to sneak it past certain crewmates but I managed." He chuckled.

"Thanks." You replied. You had a good idea of which crewmates he might be referring to. And if the kind personality and face weren't enough to make you fall almost instantly for this man, the first bite of those rice balls definitely had done the trick.

~a few months later~

The whole crew was in mourning. Had it not been for you, (f/n) and Thatch being there you would have lost Ace, but Whitebeard had still died in what many considered the grandest fashion for any human being. And though you were also saddened by the recent events you focused instead on the crewmates who were most personally involved. Poor Marco was trying his best to take over as captain. Ace was agonizing over the fact that he couldn't get his payback and Whitebeard had died to save him. And then there was Thatch who thought it was his fault that Teach even had the ability to do all this because he dropped the devil fruit he was holding on the day you and (f/n) saved him.

So thinking of what to do in these times you went into the kitchen to make something for the three men. Opening the cabinets you found the bottle of Irish cream liqueur that you had hidden away and poured a shot each into three steaming mugs of coffee. Then you added whipped cream on top before taking the mugs out the door in search of the three friends.

It didn't take too long for you to find them. They were talking with each other on deck about something and smiled when they saw you approach.

"Hey (y/n)!" Ace said. Then he noticed the mugs. "Are those for me?" he asked with bright excited eyes.

Thatch approached from behind him and stopped him from grabbing the hot drinks from your hands as you giggled at their actions.

"One of them is. The others are for Thatch and Marco if they want them."

Marco then came up to you and gently took one of the drinks from your hands. "Thanks (y/n)-yoi." He said with an appreciative smile before sipping at the drink. "This is pretty good." He stated.

Thatch finally let go of Ace and after you handed Ace his mug, which he greedily gulped down, grabbed his own from your hands. His fingers touching yours just a little longer than was necessary. Sipping slowly, he savored the drink as long as possible before turning to you. "We really needed these. You're an angel. Thank you."

You blushed a little at the compliment, but still replied with a clear 'you're welcome'. Seeing the interaction Ace and Marco snickered a little before telling you good night and going below deck with their now empty mugs in hand, leaving you alone with your crush.

Leaning back on the ship's railing you gazed up at the stars in an attempt to ease your nervous heart. Thatch joined you in these actions but slouched a little as he put down the empty mug in his hand.

"How do you do it?" he asked.

"Do what?"

"Always know when I need help."

A relaxed silence passed as you shrugged as though to say 'it's no big deal.'

"I mean it." he said chuckling. "The first time you appeared was when I was just about to get stabbed to death, and every time I've needed even so much as a little help in the kitchen since then, you have been right there."

"Maybe it's my women's intuition." You stated coyly.

He bellowed in laughter. "Or maybe you really are an angel sent to watch over me." Tenderly he reached for your hand and brought it to his lips. Your face was exploding with a bright red hue. "And I thank whatever higher power that exists for every moment that you're here."

You stood there stunned for a moment or two before you hesitantly took your hand back or anything else was said.

"I-I don't quite know what it is you see in me. But thank you." You gulped "Just to be clear though. Are you saying that you like me in a friendly way or more?"

He looked nervous himself when you asked this and was scratching the back of his head as he responded. "Well I'm not one hundred percent sure how to put it into words, but definitely more than a friendly way."

"OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE JUST KISS ALREADY!!!!"

Ace and (f/n) had simultaneously yelled at you just before getting knocked out and dragged back below deck by Marco. The loud noise had been enough to spook you so that you had jumped into Thatch's arms Scooby Doo style. Then you looked into his eyes and the both of you laughed at the whole situation before the sly man decided to use this moment to steal a kiss. Which after the initial surprise you melted into as he carried you below deck towards his bedroom.
