It's been a few years since this little game between you two had started. The memory of his clawed talons gripping you as he carried you to safety and of the warmth which radiated from his wings of blue flames remained burned into your brain. Sure he left you at the nearest hospital right after saving you without so much as a word, but you knew exactly who he was. And because of his refusals to let you the crew you were playing an odd sort of cat and mouse game, which judging by his reactions sometimes seemed to amuse him as much as it did you. As did his reaction when you once tried to take a page from Luffy's book and refuse his refusal. Unfortunately that hadn't worked as well as you had hoped when he just flew off instead of continuing the argument.

You ended up having a larger role to play than expected though. When Ace had set out on his own and began his search to challenge Whitebeard, you and (f/n) were covertly steering him in the right direction. The narcoleptic goof had no idea that he was getting help from behind the scenes either. But after a few more years (f/n) alerted you to the date that was approaching, and the two of you have been watching over the Moby Dick and its crew closely.

Then the night came. Teach tried to kill Thatch for his devil fruit and the two of you swooped in to the rescue. The scuffle had ended with you bleeding from a large cut on your arm but otherwise had been successful. (F/n) had ended it by taking the devil fruit and chucking it at Teach's head. When the rest of the crew came out to interrogate you about what happened both Thatch and Marco had come to your defense. It was pretty funny seeing Marco flush as he had to explain to Whitebeard exactly how he knew you. Especially since it had obviously not gone unnoticed by Whitebeard who had a teasing smirk on his mustached lips.

The old man was both amused and distressed at the whole situation but was relieved that it had all ended without any casualties. Furthermore he insisted that you and (f/n) stay with the crew to at least get your arm looked at. Instead however you took the moment to give a quick kiss to Marco on lips, whispered in his ear "Your turn." And ran off the ship with (f/n) following closely behind. The last thing you heard as you sped away on your boat being the roar of laughter from the Whitebeard crew at the probably confused and cherry red Marco.

~At Marineford~

You and (f/n) were able to infiltrate the marine ranks within the base and were stationed just behind Ace on the execution platform. (F/n) was muttering complaints about how itchy the uniform was while you tried hard not to tell him to shut his cakehole. Had there not been so much tension in the air from the whole situation you would probably have been found out long before getting this far. And even after the chaos began to engulf the area and several groups of pirates went head to head with the marines you and (f/n) waited patiently for just the right moment. And that moment came when the Whitebeard crew arrived.

Specifically while everyone was distracted by Marco as he tried to reach Ace. In those few seconds while everyone else's eyes were on Marco's brilliant bird form you used the key to Ace's seastone cuffs, freeing him, then pulling him towards the stairs before even he could feel the lack of restraints. You gave Marco a wink as the two of you helped Ace get through the battlefield, soon you were joined and protected by Marco, Luffy and Thatch. Finally at the last stretch you were stumbling to try and get Ace onto Law's submarine with Luffy and found yourselves being protected by Whitebeard himself who ended up with the same fate that you remembered.

Then just as Shanks finally appeared to end the fight, all of the exhaustion and minor injuries you received got to you. The last thing you felt before the world went dark was a strong, warm pair of arms engulfing you.

~The next morning~

You felt sore all over, which made it difficult to sit up in the bed you had woken up in. As you looked around and processed where you were, you also felt a large hand on your leg. Following the arm you smiled at the sight of a blonde tuff of hair. The man it was attached to was sleeping soundly, which you had guessed from the soft snores he was producing.

He began to stir the moment you touched his hand. When he raised his head and looked at your face he jumped up and hugged you. You laughed in between repeated 'ows' as he muttered "Thank god. You're finally awake yoi."

Winching in pain as he pulled away you nervously scratched the back of your head as you replied. "Guess the whole cat and mouse game is over, huh? Seeing as you finally caught me and I can't get away."

"True." He had a gentle smile as he said it. Then he closed his eyes and leaned in and pecked you on the corner of your lips before pulling back just enough to lean his forehead against your own. And the two of you stayed that way, relaxing in each other's presence, for a moment.

Meanwhile in the doorway three pairs of eyes could just barely be seen peeking in on the scene. The one at the top, Thatch, then said to the other two, (f/n) and Ace who grumbled in response, "Alright guys pay up."
