Chapter 5

Luke's P.O.V

This wasn't supposed to happen. I thought I escaped my past. I thought Aurora was safe. Clearly she isn't. And me neither to be honest. I used to hang out with Damon and his group. That was back then where I didn't do anything right. I did drugs and all kinds of bad and criminal things. I did all of those things with Damon. Then Aurora found out I did all those things.

*flashback*

"What the hell were you thinking Luke?!" Aurora yelled at me with tears streaming down her imperfectly perfect face.

"I-I don't know" I said and looked down at my sweaty hands.

"You don't deserve this" Aurora whispered loud enough for me to hear. Then she sobbed out loud and slowly slid down the wall and pulled her knees firmly to her chest as she hid her face in her arms. I shot up from my position on the couch and ran towards her, taking her small shaking body in my strong arms.

"No no no no... hey. Hey Aurora don't cry. Baby, please don't cry".

I tried my best to make her stop but she wouldn't stop crying. Poor girl. What have I done to her. Great, Luke, you really hurt her you idiot.

"Come on Aurora. I can't stand seeing my best friend cry"

She looked up at me with the most gorgeous blue eyes I've ever seen. Despite her eyes being unbelievably beautiful, there was something else hidden deeper inside. Broken pieces. She was completely shattered. They say that your eyes reflect your soul and I could definitely tell that she was completely broken. And I caused it.

"Promise me you'll stay away from him and his group. Please. I don't wanna-"

Another sob escaped her lips and she let more tears fall down her pink cheeks. I rubbed my thumb over her cheek to dry away her tears before she quietly spoke:

"I-I don't wanna.. lose you". She said as she looked down and took her small shaky hand in mine intertwining our fingers before looking up at me.

Something changed in her eyes. She no longer looked broken. She looked like as if my touch started healing her.

"Because.. I..". She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. I looked at her to continue.

"I love you"

I was completely taken back by her words. But in a strange way it felt right. Those three words felt right to say. I knew that in that specific moment that I, Luke Robert Hemmings was in love with Aurora Caroline Everéeden.

*present*

Back then we weren't together but we soon developed into a beautiful and peaceful relationship. Or at least I thought it was peaceful. I just wanna protect her.

My thoughts were interrupted by my phone ringing. I answered.

"Hello?"

"Hello is this Luke Hemmings?"

"Yes?"

"Good. It says in the information papers that you're the one we are supposed to call if something happens to Aurora Everéeden"

I could feel my heart started racing.

"What's wrong? What happened? Is she okay?!"

"Mr. Hemmings.. Aurora has been in a car accident"
