"Kalissa!" I stop and turn to see my best friend Melinda running towards me through the hallway.
"Hey, Mel! What's up?" I ask her when she reaches me.
"Mr. Barnes let us out of class early. Want to walk to English together?" Mr Barnes teaches government and is at the opposite end of the school from our English class.
"Of course!" I say. "I can't believe my birthday is on Friday!" My birthday is October 19th.
"Only three more days and you'll be 17!" Today is Tuesday, October 16th, 2012.
"I know! I can't wait!"
"You're still having a sleepover, right?" Mel asks me.
"Yes, and it's at my mom's house." My parents have been divorced since I was four years old. They both live in Trauldon, Michigan, but in separate houses. My dad lives outside of town in the country. My mom lives in a suburban home right on the edge of town.
